The effect of sequence selection and field strength on detection of osteochondral defects in the metacarpophalangeal joint.

Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound, 2011
Six cadaver forelimbs were imaged in two high-field magnetic resonance (MR) systems and one low-field MR system following the creation of osteochondral defects on the palmar distal aspect of the third metacarpal bone.

A metacarpophalangeal joint stabilization splint

Journal of Hand Therapy, 2002
Creation of a splint should allow for maximal functional use of the hand as well as comfort. The design of the Galindo-Lim splint enhances functional use of the hand not only because it stabilizes the MCP joint but also because it does not cross the wrist crease, thus allowing full wrist motion.

METACARPOPHALANGEAL JOINT IMPLANT ARTHROPLASTY

AORN Journal, 1994
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) usually requires lifelong treatment and sometimes surgery. Metacarpophalangeal joint (MCPJ) implant arthroplasty is one surgical treatment for patients with severe RA malformation of the finger joints. Although not a cure, MCPJ implant arthroplasty can enhance patients' quality of life by improving their performance of ...

Locking of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb.

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1985
We clinically examined the hands of twenty-three patients and experimented with amputation specimens to clarify the characteristic features and pathomechanism of locking of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb. In all of the patients the locking had resulted from forced hyperextension of the thumb. Every injured thumb showed a mild hyperextension

Congenital extension contracture of metacarpophalangeal joints

Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 1997
We report a case of congenital extension contracture of the fifth metacarpophalangeal joints in a 15-year-old boy who had no associated anomalies and was successfully treated by surgery. Congenital extension contracture of bilateral metacarpophalangeal joints has not been reported previously, and the entity can be considered to be a new subgroup of ...

Functional consequences of cartilage degeneration in the equine metacarpophalangeal joint: quantitative assessment of cartilage stiffness.

Equine Veterinary Journal, 2010
REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY No quantitative data currently exist on the relationship of the occurrence of cartilage degeneration and changes in site-specific biomechanical properties in the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint in the horse.

Perichondrial Grafting in Rheumatoid Metacarpophalangeal Joints

Hand, 1980
A pilot study of perichondrial grafting in rheumatoid metacarpophalangeal joints is presented. Eighteen separate joints have been grafted with a mean follow-up time of eighteen months. Results and indications for this method of joint reconstruction in rheumatoid patients are discussed.

METACARPOPHALANGEAL JOINT INJURIES IN FINGERS

Hand Clinics, 1992
Although uncommon, injuries to the MP joints of fingers must not be ignored. A loss of function in even a single MP joint can seriously impair overall hand function. The potential dire consequences of these injuries can be avoided by an accurate diagnosis at the time of injury and the institution of appropriate treatment.
