The prevalence of Opisthorchis viverrini, a fish-borne zoonotic trematode that can provoke cholangiocarcinoma, is high in the Northeast Thailand. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of O. viverrini metacercariae in the cyprinid fish and

The parasitic liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica, has a detrimental impact on food security and poses a welfare concern to ruminant livestock. F. hepatica metacercariae, shed from an intermediate mud snail host, encyst on vegetation and present a source of ...

Gene expression profile of Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae
Parasitology Research, 2007Clonorchis sinensis develop through miracidium, sporocyst, redia, cercaria, and metacercaria stages before becoming egg-laying adult flukes. The authors undertook this analysis of gene expression profiles during developmental stages to increase our understanding of the biology of C. sinensis and of host-parasite relationships. From a C.

Bile-induced genes in Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae
Parasitology Research, 2008Bile stimulates many intestinal parasites, and newly excysted juvenile Clonorchis sinensis (CsNEJ) responds chemotactically to bile and matures in the bile duct. In this study, using annealing control primer-based polymerase chain reaction (PCR), 16 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found to be upregulated in C.

Digenean Metacercariae Parasitic in a Staurozoan Cnidarian
Zoological Science, 2022I report digenean metacercariae from Staurozoa, which were not previously known as digenean hosts. The host species, Haliclystus tenuis Kishinouye, 1910, was collected from algae in Oshoro Bay, Hokkaido, Japan, and contained metacercariae in the mesoglea. The metacercariae were encysted; cysts were oval, 93 µm long by 64 µm wide in one live individual.

In Vitro Excystation ofParagonimus heterotremusMetacercariae
Journal of Parasitology, 2001In vitro excystation studies were carried out on the metacercariae cysts of Paragonimus heterotremus obtained from naturally infected crabs Potamon spp. The effects of elastase, trypsin, trypsin-dog bile, trypsin-bile salt, and dithiothreitol (DTT) were examined. The trypsin-dog bile medium stimulated maximum excystation.

The trematodes from South American reptiles are poorly known, with only one life cycle completely characterized. We used molecular and morphological methods to characterize diplostomoid metacercariae found in 29 of 86 pointedbelly frogs, Leptodactylus ...

Cercariae and metacercariae of Stephanostomumcloacum (Trematoda: Acanthocolpidae)
International Journal for Parasitology, 1993Cercariae and metacercariae of the acanthocolpid trematode, Stephanostomum cloacum (Srivastava, 1938) are described and illustrated, based on material collected from Chilka Lake, a brackish water lagoon. Natural infections with the cercariae were found in the snail, Nassarius orissaensis and with the metacercariae in the bivalve, Modiolus undulatus ...
