Phenology drives asymmetric responses of ecosystem productivity stability to warming and cooling

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Ecosystem productivity stability is a key indicator of ecosystem functioning under climate change, but the role of cooling periods in increasingly variable climates remains poorly resolved.

Global meta‐analysis reveals urban‐associated behavioural differences among wild populations

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Urbanization drives rapid phenotypic change, yet broad patterns of behavioural responses remain unclear. Using a global phylogenetic meta‐analysis, we show urban populations exhibit increased boldness, aggression, exploration and activity—especially in birds—highlighting consistent behavioural shifts and revealing major taxonomic gaps that limit our ...

Limited capacity for rapid acclimation to marine heatwaves in coastal invertebrates

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Across 10 coastal invertebrate species, we provide a rare multi‐species test of rapid acclimation to realistic marine heatwaves. Responses are consistently weak, revealing that short‐term plasticity cannot keep pace with warming and may lead to underestimated vulnerability in coastal ecosystems. Abstract Marine heatwaves are increasing in frequency and

Association Between Lateral Placenta and Adverse Maternal and Perinatal Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes such as preeclampsia, small‐for‐gestational age (SGA) and preterm birth remain major global health concerns. Beyond known high‐risk placental features, emerging evidence suggests lateral placenta to be associated with impaired uteroplacental blood flow resulting in placenta dysfunction and ...

Vaginal Misoprostol Compared to Vaginal Dinoprostone for Induction of Labour: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Induction of labour is a common intervention. The prostaglandin dinoprostone is often used, but there is increasing evidence that misoprostol may be more effective without compromising safety. This review compares the efficacy and safety of vaginal misoprostol and vaginal dinoprostone.

Associations of cannabis use, tobacco use and co‐use with brain volume: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and aims Cannabis is the most widely used illicit drug worldwide and is often co‐used with tobacco, the leading cause of preventable death. Although cannabis and tobacco have distinct neurobiological actions, their associations with brain volumes are unclear.

Alcohol consumption and cognitive function: A systematic review and dose–response meta‐analysis of 20 cohort studies

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and aims Amid ongoing debate on whether low‐to‐moderate alcohol consumption reduces cardiovascular risk, studies examining the association between alcohol consumption and cognitive function have reported inconsistent results. To quantitatively assess this association, we conducted a dose–response meta‐analysis of cohort studies ...

Oprez, metafore!
