Abstract The influences of rice husk ash (RHA) on the reaction kinetics, mechanical property, and microstructure of metakaolin-based geopolymer (MG) were investigated. Geopolymer pastes containing different contents of RHA were prepared by sodium silicate activation.

Metakaolin in the formulation of UHPC
Construction and Building Materials, 2009Silica fumes have characteristics that make them exceptional in cement matrices and, in particular, in UHPC. Nevertheless, they have important disadvantages: lack of availability, cost and color. The search for substitute products thus appears important if the use of UHPC is to become more widespread in the concrete industry, e.g.

Pozzolanic activation of metakaolin
Advances in Cement Research, 1992Metakaolin may be calcined without grinding and suitably activated by Ca(OH)2, Na2SO4, CaSO4 (beta anhydrite) and/or NaOH. The best strengths, 50 MPa from mortar cubes at 18 months, were obtained using Ca(OH)2 and CaSO4 activators. The handling and set properties are similar to those of Portland cement; aluminous C-S-H gel is the best binder.

Role of the morphology and the dehydroxylation of metakaolins on geopolymerization
Applied Clay Science, 2010Two commercial metakaolins were tested during partial geopolymerization with potassium silicate in order to emphasize the different surface reactivities. Both manual and short-term mechanical stirring were used for slurry preparation, while radiation, infrared, and microwave heating were used for curing.

Metakaolin as a radon retardant from concrete
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2003Granite aggregates are known to be the radon source in concrete. Recently, metakaolin has been introduced as a partial substitution of Portland cement to produce high strength concrete. It can effectively reduce the porosity of both the matrix and the aggregate/paste transition zone, which suggests its ability to retard radon emission from concrete ...

The effect of metakaolin upon the formation of ettringite in metakaolin–lime–gypsum ternary systems
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2017The present study reports the results of investigation on the role of metakaolin in the formation of ettringite in a model relevant to Portland cement. The model consists of ternary system (Trio) metakaolin–lime–gypsum. Five samples of defined ternary system were cured at different temperatures 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 °C.

Properties of Metakaolin blended cements
Advanced Cement Based Materials, 1994Abstract Metakaolin is a supplementary cementitious material with pozzolanic properties. Its activation by triacalcium silicate (C3S), triacalcium aluminate (C3A), and ordinary Portland cement is reported. The early hydration period of pastes containing metakaolin was investigated using isothermal calorimetry and conductivity.
