Origamic metal-organic framework toward mechanical metamaterial

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Origami, known as paper folding has become a fascinating research topic recently. Origami-inspired materials often establish mechanical properties that are difficult to achieve in conventional materials.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Observation of an Intermediate to H2 Binding in a Metal–organic Framework

open access: yes, 2021
Coordinatively-unsaturated metal sites within certain zeolites and metal–organic frameworks can strongly adsorb various molecules. While many classical examples involve electron-poor metal cations that interact with adsorbates largely through ...

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Enantioselective Catalysts Based on Metal-Organic Framework-Supported Nucleotides

open access: yes, 2023
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and other nucleotides can be irreversibly bound to the metal-organic framework (MOF) MIL-101(Cr). Analysis of X-ray diffraction data suggests that the location of the adsorbed ATP molecule is in proximity of the Cr3 clusters.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...
