Voltage-Gated Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence

Journal of Fluorescence, 2009
We demonstrate the influence of electrical current on the ability of surface plasmons to amplify fluorescence signatures. An applied direct current across Silver Island Films (SIFs) of low electrical resistance perturbs the fluorescence enhancement.

Editorial: Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence

Journal of Fluorescence, 2002
As fluorescence spectroscopists we are mostly all yields, decreased lifetimes, increased photostability, and familiar with doing spectroscopy in bulk samples, where an increase in Forster transfer distances and directional the solutions are typically transparent to the emitted radia- emission.

The tuning of metal enhanced fluorescence for sensing applications

Dalton Trans., 2014
Stable coinage metal nanoparticles (NPs) have been synthesized individually in an aqueous alkaline solution from the corresponding metal salts as precursors using the condensation product (CP) of salicylaldehyde and triethylenetetramine as a reagent. Silver and gold NPs are obtained with and without light illumination but UV irradiation is essential ...

Metal-enhanced fluorescence: effect of surface coating

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
Metal Enhanced Fluorescence (MEF), a phenomenon arising when a fluorophore is in closed proximity to a metallic structure such as metallic films or nanostructures, is seen as a way to increase the amount of reactive oxygen species produced by the irradiation of the protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), a photosensitizer commonly used in photodynamic therapy. Here,

Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence: Potential Applications in HTS

Combinatorial Chemistry & High Throughput Screening, 2003
Metallic surfaces and particles can have dramatic effects on fluorescence, including localized excitation, increased quantum yields, increased photostability and increased distances for resonance energy transfer (RET), and directional emission. While all these effects have not yet been realized in a single system, metal-enhanced fluorescence promises ...

Wavelength Dependence of Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence

The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2009
In this paper, metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) from 6-propionyl-2-dimethylaminonaphthalene (Prodan) in different solvents when placed in close proximity to silver island films (SIFs), surface-deposited nanoparticles, is studied. We observe that MEF is wavelength dependent: the enhanced emission of Prodan on SIFs in different solvents changes from 1.5-

Distance Dependence of Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence

Plasmonics, 2012
In recent years both the mechanism and applications of metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) have attracted significant attention, yet many fundamental aspects of MEF remain unanswered or addressed. In this study, we address a fundamental aspect of MEF. Using fluorescein-labeled different length DNA scaffolds, covalently bound to silver nanodeposits, we ...

Excitation volumetric effects (EVE) in metal-enhanced fluorescence

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2011
Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence (MEF) effects from different density silver island films (SiFs) and the effects of far-field excitation irradiance on the observed enhancement of fluorescence were studied. It is shown that MEF non-linearly depends on silver nanoparticle (NP) size/density, reaching a maximum value for SiFs made at a deposition time (DT) of ...
