Metals and Metal Derivatives in Medicine

Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2013
Several chemical elements are required by living organisms in addition to the four elements carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen usually present in common organic molecules. Many metals (e.g. sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum and selenium) are known to be required for normal biological functions

Cytotoxicity of metals, metal-metal and metal-chelator combinations assayed in vitro

Toxicology, 1986
A simple, rapid assay, based on the lysosomal incorporation of neutral red by cells, conveniently carried out in 96-well microtiter plates, was used to evaluate the cytotoxic effect of cationic and anionic metal salts on BALB/c mouse 3T3 fibroblasts.

Metal-metal-hofteproteser

Ugeskrift for Læger, 2014
In Denmark 4,456 metal-on-metal (MoM) hip prostheses have been implanted. Evidence demonstrates that some patients develope adverse biological reactions causing failures of MoM hip arthroplasty. Some reactions might be systemic. Failure rates are associated with the type and the design of the MoM hip implant.

Metal-on-metal Bearing Surfaces

Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2009
Metal-on-metal bearing couples remain a popular option in total hip arthroplasty and are the only currently available option for surface replacement arthroplasty. In general, the intermediate-term clinical performance of metal-on-metal bearings has been favorable.

Metall-Metall-Bindung

2014

Metals

1986
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses applications of metals on a model traction engine and drinking cans. The most notable part of the traction engine made from copper is the boiler and its fire tubes. In full size, this would have been made from mild steel, and the use of copper in the model is a nice example of how the choice of material can ...

Metal–Insulator–Metal Transistors

Advanced Materials, 2008
A metal–insulator–metal field‐effect transistor has been fabricated. The device performance was achieved by reducing the density of states by only partially covering the substrate, which increases the relative field effect. An infinite on–off ratio, no lower limit to device dimensions, a generally enhanced flexibility in design, and low production ...
