Amorphous metal foams

Scripta Materialia, 2006
As recently demonstrated, amorphous metal foams are highly ductile in compression, and thus offer attractive compromises in mechanical and physical properties between crystalline metallic and ceramic foams. Challenges associated with fabrication of amorphous metal foams are critically assessed in the context of current and future processing methods ...

Study on the metal foam flow field with porosity gradient in the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell

, 2020
It is significant to have locally non-uniform designs in the flow fields since distributions of the current density, temperature, gas, and water concentration are usually non-uniform along the flow path in the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell.

Solidification of metal foams

Acta Materialia, 2010
Abstract Expansion and contraction phenomena during solidification of liquid metal foams were studied. Such foams were processed by mixing metal powders with TiH2 powder and compacting the resulting blends, after which the compacted powders were melted. The subsequent foaming process was monitored in situ by X-ray radioscopy.

Total enthalpy-based lattice Boltzmann simulations of melting in paraffin/metal foam composite phase change materials

, 2020
Phase change materials (PCM) have become a popular choice for building thermal management due to their low cost, chemical stability and high energy density. Though, their low thermal conductivity is a limiting factor in their use.

Experimental and numerical investigation into the crashworthiness of metal-foam-composite hybrid structures

Composite structures, 2019
To meet the growing demands for structural lightweight and safety, metal-foam-composite hybrid tubular sandwich structures, which combine low-cost metallic materials and high-strength composites with low-density cellular materials, have been recently ...

Rheology and Foaming Characteristics of Melt for Metal Foam

Materials Science Forum, 2005
Metal foam was produced by the Melt Foaming Method. In this foaming process, the surface tension and the viscosity of molten Al (recycled waste Al) and Mg alloy (Az91) that were measured respectively by the ring method and the rotational method are the most important two factors.
