Transport properties of real metallic foams
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2010Three dimensional samples of three different foams are obtained by microtomography. The macroscopic conductivity and permeability of these foams are calculated by three different numerical techniques based on either a finite volume discretization or Lattice Boltzmann algorithm.

Comparison of Single-Phase Convection in Additive Manufactured Versus Traditional Metal Foams
Journal of heat transfer, 2020Metal foams have been often used for thermal management due to their favorable characteristics including high specific surface area (SSA), high thermal conductivity, and low relative density.

Thermal conduction in open-cell metal foams: Anisotropy and Representative Volume Element
International journal of thermal sciences, 2019It is well known that the manufacturing process of open-cell foams slightly elongates their struts in one direction, thus making them anisotropic; in turn, anisotropy affects foam characteristics.

Introduction to Metallic Foams
2020In this chapter, metal foams are introduced and fundamentally described. Their unique structure and properties which made them different from conventional materials are introduced. For enhancing their appreciation, this chapter systematically and chronologically summarizes the origin and history of metal foams highlighting the efforts of researchers ...

Fracture of Metal Foams: A Discrete Modelling Approach
2008A discrete model based on two-dimensional Voronoi tessellation has been used to study damage and fracture in open-cell metal foams. The present study focuses on elastic-fracture behaviour of the foam. A competition mechanism among various damaging struts leading to damage localization and formation of a fracture band has been observed.

Applications of Metallic Foams
2020This chapter cites multiple applications where metal foams are actively utilized. These applications broadly relate to structural, biomedical, chemical industry, and functional areas due to the outstanding properties metal foams exhibit when compared to parent metals.
