Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Spiropyran modified PDMS micro-fluidic chip device for photonically controlled sensor array detection of metal ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Micro‐fluidic chips are particularly attractive in biological and life sciences for analytical purposes because they provide a convenient small platform for rapid analysis and detection [1].

On the Stereochemistry of the Cations in the Doping Block of Superconducting Copper-Oxides

open access: yes, 1995
Metal-oxygen complexes containing Cu,- Tl-, Hg-, Bi- and Pb-cations are electronically active in superconducting copper-oxides by stabilizing single phases with enhanced $T_c$, whereas other metal-oxygen complexes deteriorate copper-oxide ...

On the Interaction of Melanoidin with Metallic Ions

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1976
Melanoidin, which is obtained from the browning solution prepared from glycine-D-glucose system by acid precipitation, displays a noticeable character attributable to an amphoteric polyvalent electrolyte with the isoelectric point at pH 2.5. The number of proton released during titration from the isoelectric point to pH 11.0 is ca. 500 per one molecule

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

The High-Resolution Structures of the Neutral and the Low pH Crystals of Aminopeptidase from \u3cem\u3eAeromonas proteolytica\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The aminopeptidase from Aeromonas proteolytica (AAP) contains two zinc ions in the active site and catalyzes the degradation of peptides. Herein we report the crystal structures of AAP at 0.95-Å resolution at neutral pH and at 1.24-Å resolution at low pH.

A few electrons per ion scenario for the B=0 metal-insulator transition in two dimensions

open access: yes, 1999
We argue on the basis of experimental numbers that the B=0 metal-insulator transition in two dimensions, observed in Si-MOSFETs and in other two-dimensional systems, is likely to be due to a few strongly interacting electrons, which also interact ...
