Formation and characterization of a nickel-quasicrystal composite produced by electroforming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The electroforming of metal matrix composites has been a research topic for more than a decade. Different types of reinforcement (e.g. SiC, Al 2O 3 and PTFE) have been used for different purposes such as wear resistance, dry lubrication, anticorrosion ...

Strengthening dual-phase Mg-Li alloy through precipitation control

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
Inherent low strength is the major limitation of Mg-Li alloys. Through precise control of precipitates, the cast Mg-8Li-3Al-2Zn alloy obtained a high specific ultimate tensile strength of 213 kN·m·kg−1.

A super high-strength Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Mn alloy fabricated by hot extrusion and strain aging

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
A super high-strength wrought Mg-12.6Gd-1.3Y-0.9Zn-0.5Mn (GWZ1311M, wt%) alloy fabricated by hot extrusion and strain aging is developed. The strain before aging including cold rolling or cold rolling plus stretching results in strong work hardening and ...

Influence of alloying elements on hot tearing susceptibility of Mg–Zn alloys based on thermodynamic calculation and experimental

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2018
Based on the hot tearing index |∆T/∆(fs)0.5| recently proposed by Kou and the thermodynamic calculations of Pandat software, Al, Cu, and Mn elements were picked up and their influence on hot tearing susceptibility of Mg–xZn (x = 6, 8, 10, wt%) alloys was

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.
