Effect of Production Parameters on the Properties of Composite Wires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Nowadays, metal matrix composites have many new areas of application owing to their excellent properties - for example their great tensile strength and high Young’s modulus with its relatively low weight.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Inelastic Deformation of Metal Matrix Composites [PDF]

open access: yes
The deformation mechanisms of a Ti 15-3/SCS6 (SiC fiber) metal matrix composite (MMC) were investigated using a combination of mechanical measurements and microstructural analysis.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of in-situ TiB2/A356 composites and a prediction model of yield strength [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2015
The in-situ TiB2/A356 composites were successfully synthesized through the mixed salt reaction method. The advantage of this technique was that the particle sizes and morphology can be controlled by the melt reaction.

Permanent porous hydrogen-bonded frameworks with two types of Brønsted acid sites for heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The search for porous materials with strong Brønsted acid sites for challenging chemical reactions has been of significant interest, but remains challenging.

Microstructure of metal matrix composites reinforced by ceramic microballoons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Metal matrix composites reinforced by ceramic hollow microspheres were produced as special porous metals, called metal matrix syntactic foams (MMSFs).
