Engineering Deformation and Failure in Diamond Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Lattices via 3D Wall‐Thickness Grading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The work demonstrates that strategic wall‐thickness grading in diamond triply periodic minimal surface lattices enables precise tuning of deformation and failure behavior under compression. Different gradation patterns guide how and where the structure collapses, improving energy absorption or promoting controlled brittle failure.

Resolving sub-angstrom ambient motion through reconstruction from vibrational spectra

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Tracking single molecule movements is a challenging task, but highly desired for applications and fundamental studies. Here the authors reconstruct the sub-angstrom relative movements of a molecule interacting with a metal adatom, by measuring its ...

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

Di-n-butylbis[N-(2-methoxyethyl)-N-methyldithiocarbamato-κ2S,S′]tin(IV): crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2017
The complete molecule of the title compound, [Sn(C4H9)2(C5H10NOS2)2], is generated by a crystallographic mirror plane, with the SnIV atom and the two inner methylene C atoms of the butyl ligands lying on the mirror plane; statistical disorder is noted in

Electron orbital valves made of multiply connected armchair carbon nanotubes with mirror-reflection symmetry: tight-binding study

open access: yes, 2006
Using the tight-binding method and the Landauer-B\"{u}ttiker conductance formalism, we demonstrate that a multiply connected armchair carbon nanotube with a mirror-reflection symmetry can sustain an electron current of the $\pi$-bonding orbital while ...

Removing Homocoupling Defects in Alkoxy/Alkyl‐PBTTT Enhances Polymer:Fullerene Co‐Crystal Formation and Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
PBTTT‐OR‐R, a C14‐alkoxy/alkyl‐PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge‐transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT‐OR‐R(O) forms stable co‐crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT‐OR‐R(S ...

The Mirrors from Nur-Tukhum

open access: yesПоволжская археология, 2019
Two mirrors which were unearthed in 2016–2017 on the Nur-Tukhum archaeological complex are analyzed in the paper. The first finding is represented by a fragment of a Chinese bronze mirror of the TLV type, originating from the Xiongnu burial, the second ...

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

Observation of quantum interference in the plasmonic Hong-Ou-Mandel effect

open access: yes, 2014
We report direct evidence of the bosonic nature of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in a scattering-based beamsplitter. A parametric down-conversion source is used to produce two indistinguishable photons, each of which is converted into a SPP on a ...
