Uniform Amorphization of Crystalline Silicon Surfaces Enabled by Deep Ultraviolet Femtosecond Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Deep‐UV (258 nm) femtosecond pulses enable uniform amorphous silicon writing on Si(100)/(111) with a six‐fold larger fluence amorphization window than NIR methods. Optimized fluence and overlap yield 20–45 nm uniform and continuous amorphous layers. Microscopy shows sharp interfaces, and real‐time reflectivity reveals nanosecond melt–resolidification ...

A study of the Morphology and Optical Properties of Electropolished Aluminum in the Vis-IR region

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2009
In this paper, the commercial pure aluminum specimens (Al 99.3 %) are electropolished in an acidic electrolyte. The morphology, reflection, and roughness of the specimens are investigated. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX),

Superlubricity and Corrosion Inhibition Properties of Solvate Ionic Liquids in Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic–Steel Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...

Enhanced Ultrasound Transmission Through Aberration Layers Using Space‐Coiling Acoustic Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Enhancing ultrasound transmission through an aberration layer exhibiting mismatched impedance with the surrounding medium possesses great implications in imaging and treatment. In this study, we show that a space‐coiling acoustic metamaterial with judiciously tailored structural profile can help improve impedance matching.

CONSTRUCTION OF A PARABOLIC SOLAR COLLECTOR AND COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE PERFORMANCE OF ALUMINUM-COATED PELLICLE FILM AND ALUMINUM FOIL AS REFLECTING SURFACES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Energy, 2020
Most of the concentrators used in solar thermal systems are made from mirrors or metals with mirror or other highly reflective surfaces. Because mirror is the best reflecting surface for solar collectors and parabolic mirrors are expensive, people in the

Metals in Metal Salts: A Copper Mirror Demonstration

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Education, 2010
A simple lecture demonstration is described to show the latent presence of metal atoms in a metal salt. Copper(II) formate tetrahydrate is heated in a round-bottom flask forming a high-quality copper mirror.

Ferroelectricity in Antiferromagnetic Wurtzite Nitrides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We establish MnSiN2${\rm MnSiN}_2$ and MnGeN2${\rm MnGeN}_2$ as aristotypes of a new multiferroic wurtzite family that simultaneously exhibits ferroelectricity and antiferromagnetism with altermagnetic spin splitting. By strategically substituting alkaline‐earth metals, we predict new materials with coexisting switchable polarization, spin texture, and

(Acetylacetone isonicotinoylhydrazonato-κ3O,N′,O′)dioxidovanadate(V) monohydrate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2010
The hydrazone anion in the title compound, [V(C11H12N3O2)O2]·H2O, is zwitterionic as its pyridyl N atom is protonated; the O, N and O′ atoms span the axial–equatorial–axial positions of the trigonal-bipyramidal ...

Spin Injection Of Exciton–Polaritons With Halide Perovskites At Room Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A monolithic Tamm‐plasmon microcavity embedding a two‐dimensional halide perovskite enables room‐temperature spin injection of exciton‐polaritons under quasi‐resonant optical excitation. Polarization‐resolved spectroscopy reveals partial preservation of the injected spin in the lower polariton branch, while bare excitons remain fully depolarized.
