Metal nanoparticles and their assemblies

open access: yesChemical Society Reviews, 2000
Metal nanoparticles of varying sizes can be prepared by physical as well as chemical methods. They exhibit many fascinating properties, the size-dependent metal to nonmetal transition being an important one. Metal nanoparticles capped by thiols can be organized into ordered one-, two- and three-dimensional structures and these structures have ...

Plasmonic nature of van der Waals forces between nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesPlasmonics 4, 31-36 (2009), 2007
We propose a new approach to calculate van der Waals forces between nanoparticles where the van der Waals energy can be reduced to the energy of elementary surface plasmon oscillations in nanoparticles. The general theory is applied to describe the interaction between 2 metallic nanoparticles and between a nanoparticle and a perfectly conducting plane.
