Thermal Properties of Metal Oxide Surge Arresters

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1983
The thermal properties of metal oxide surge arresters have been represented as a simple analog og model. This model can be used for steady-state and transient simulation of arrester performance in field or laboratory conditions. Model parameters can be determined analytically from physical dimensions of a particular arrester unit or derived by ...

Cross Stockwell transform aided Random Forest based surface condition identification of Metal Oxide Surge Arrester employning Leakage current signal

2020 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP), 2020
This paper proposes a methodology to monitor the surface condition of Metal Oxide Surge Arrester (MOSA) in power system. Generally, the surface of polymeric housed MOSAs are affected due to various pollutants.

Hybrid simulation of metal oxide surge-arrester thermal behaviour

Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 1996
This paper describes an improved finite-difference-based technique for accurately simulating the thermal behaviour of a metal oxide surge arrester (MOSA). Application of the suggested technique yields the steady-state axial and radial variation of arrester temperature. The accuracy of the modelling technique is demonstrated experimentally.

Return voltage measurements on metal oxide surge arresters

11th International Symposium on High-Voltage Engineering (ISH 99), 1999
A number of diagnostics are currently available to monitor the condition of metal oxide surge arresters. Very often a number of these diagnostics do not provide meaningful interpretation about the condition of arresters. The authors have experienced one such anomaly during their involvement with multipulse operating duty tests on distribution type ...

A comparative analysis of metal-oxide surge arrester

2017 International Conference on Energy, Communication, Data Analytics and Soft Computing (ICECDS), 2017
In the present development, a metal-oxide surge arrester (MOSA) introduces an extremely non-linear characteristic sufficient to ground the surges like lightning strokes and other over voltages. Although a revolutionary work has been done in this particular field, the device still looks some insufficiencies.
