U-shaped metallic-yielding damper in building structures: Seismic behavior and comparison with a friction damper

Structures, 2015
Abstract This paper presents the performance of U-shaped metallic-yielding dampers in steel building frames as well as a comparison with rotational friction dampers, known as Friction Damper Devices (FDD). For this purpose, an installation detail to use a U-shaped damper in steel building frames was suggested.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Steel Moment Resisting Frame with U-Shaped Metallic Yielding Damper

International Journal of Steel Structures, 2018
This study introduces U-shape metallic yielding damper (UMYD) as an energy dissipation system. This damper may be used as a replaceable and cost-effective tool and fuse in structural frames to improve lateral ductility, energy absorption and damping of structural systems under earthquakes.

Metallic Yielding Dampers and Fluid Viscous Dampers for Vibration Control in Civil Engineering: A Review

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2022
Structural vibration is a widespread issue occurred in the field of civil engineering. The passive energy dissipation devices are being increasingly popular for protecting structures from external excitations due to their high performance and no need for external energy.

An innovative C-shaped yielding metallic dampers for steel structures

Structures, 2021
Abstract This paper proposed a new passive metallic damper, termed C-Shaped Damper (CSD), for a braced frame structure. The proposed system dissipates the earthquake energy using some sacrificial C-Shaped elements and protects the main elements of structures from plastic deformation and failure. This study investigated energy dissipation and behavior

Study of an innovative graded yield metal damper

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2019
Abstract Metal dampers have been widely used to improve the seismic performance of the building structure. However, conventional metal dampers only possess one yield point and cannot protect the structure efficiently under earthquakes of different intensities.

Cyclic behavior of shear-and-flexural yielding metallic dampers

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2015
Abstract The energy dissipation potential of a metallic damper largely depends on the hysteretic response achieved due to the inelastic deformation of plates under either axial or flexural or shear loading. In this study, a passive energy dissipation device consisting of a series of steel plates capable of yielding in both flexure and shear has been ...
