Seismic Analysis of Low and High Rise Building Frames Incorporating Metallic Yielding Dampers [PDF]

open access: yesCivil Engineering and Architecture, 2018
There are many passive energy dissipating devices designed to dissipate earthquake energy in a structure. Metallic yielding dampers is one of these devices which are very efficient as they dissipate seismic input energy through hysteretic behavior. This research used ETABS software to analyze the performance of three metallic yielding dampers; X-shaped

Review of Thermally Activated Twisted Coiled Polymer Actuators: A Materials Science Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally activated twisted and coiled polymer actuators (TCPAs) combine lightweight design, large deformation, and scalable fabrication for soft robotic and wearable applications. This review connects polymer structure, processing history, helix geometry, and thermomechanical characterization to actuator performance, highlighting current challenges in

Shaping Matter with Acoustic Waves: From Particles to Functional Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Acoustic‐directed assembly is reviewed as a materials‐oriented strategy for organizing particles, polymers, metals, and biological systems into functional structures. The review distinguishes reversible manipulation from permanent structure formation through medium fixation, particle fixation, and in situ material generation, highlighting routes toward

Seismic behavior of structures equipped with variable friction dissipative (VFD) systems

open access: yes, 2021
Usually, to mitigate the stresses in framed structures, different strategies are used. Among them, base isolation, viscous/friction/metallic yielding dampers and tuned mass dumpers have been widely investigated.

Immunoinflammatory Mechanisms and Biocompatibility of Bioactive Dental Biomaterials: From Fundamental Insights to Clinical Translation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface‐host dialogue at the implant interface governs biological fate and osseointegration. Surface physicochemical properties of titanium (Ti) dental implants, including microgrooves, nanopatterns, nanotopography, roughness, and wettability, modulate the initial adsorption of proteins and the formation of a dynamic biointerface.

Microsphere‐Templated Conductive Syntactic Foams for Recyclable and Additively Manufactured Soft Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a microsphere‐templated strategy to fabricate reprocessable PEDOT:PSS syntactic foams with tunable porosity, stable conductivity, and 3D printability. In situ PEDOT:PSS coatings create a conductive network that maintains electrical performance at high void fractions.

Tuning Amorphous‐Crystalline Catalytic Interfaces by Mechanochemistry: Cu‐Based Metallic Glasses Coupled with Ceria for CO Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ball‐milling Cu‐based metallic glasses with ceria creates a unique nanostructure where metallic glass particles are wrapped by CeO2 nanoparticles. The intimate integration triggers copper state reorganization during reaction and aging, boosting CO oxidation and COPrOx activity.

Design of hysteretic dampers with optimal ductility for the transverse seismic control of cable-stayed bridges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cable-stayed bridges require a careful consideration of the lateral force exerted by the deck on the towers under strong earthquakes. This work explores the seismic response of cable-stayed bridges with yielding metallic dampers composed of triangular ...

Flexoelectrically Induced Polar Topology in Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted SrTiO3 bilayers host polar vortices of flexoelectric origin, revealed through combined experiment and theory. By reconstructing polarization from the toroidal moment of strain gradients, the work establishes a 3D chiral state with broken inversion and mirror symmetries.
