Metallicity gradients in local field star-forming galaxies: insights on inflows, outflows, and the coevolution of gas, stars and metals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present metallicity gradients in 49 local field star-form ing galaxies. We derive gas- phase oxygen abundances using two widely adopted metallicity calibrations based on the (O III)/H , (N II)/Hand (N II)/(O II) line ratios.

Composite Electrospun Fibers Containing Optimized B‐ and Cu‐Doped Bioactive Glass Sol‐Gel Particles for Potential Soft Tissue Engineering Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article describes the preparation and characterization of poly(ε‐caprolactone) electrospun composite fibers incorporating sol‐gel‐derived bioactive glass particles doped with B and Cu. Scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, contact angle, acellular bioactivity, mechanical and ...

Short Lifetime of Protoplanetary Disks in Low-metallicity Environments

open access: yes, 2010
We studied near-infrared disk fractions of six young clusters in the low-metallicity environments with [O/H$] \sim -0.7$ using deep $JHK$ images with Subaru 8.2\,m telescope. We found that disk fraction of the low-metallicity clusters declines rapidly in

Metallicity gradients in the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Metallicity gradients in the Sagittarius dwarf Galaxy (Sgr) are investigated by using infrared photometric data from the 2MASS survey. To search for metallicity effects, the giant branch in a field situated near the Center of the Sgr is compared to the ...

On the metallicity of open clusters. III. Homogenised sample [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Open clusters are known as excellent tools for various topics in Galactic research. For example, they allow accurately tracing the chemical structure of the Galactic disc.

Unlocking the Power of Quercetin‐Encapsulated Mesoporous Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles: A Multifunctional Approach to Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) are investigated for bone regeneration given their remarkable structural and functional properties. MBGNs are functionalized with Mn and Cu and incorporated with quercetin, a natural flavonoid exhibiting antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.

GAS REGULATION OF GALAXIES: THE EVOLUTION OF THE COSMIC SPECIFIC STAR FORMATION RATE, THE METALLICITY–MASS–STAR-FORMATION RATE RELATION, AND THE STELLAR CONTENT OF HALOS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A very simple physical model of galaxies is one in which the formation of stars is instantaneously regulated by the mass of gas in a reservoir with mass loss scaling with the star-formation rate (SFR). This model links together three different aspects of

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...
