Synthesis and stability of single-phase chalcopyrite – a potential reference material for key investigations in chemistry and metallurgical engineering

open access: yesRSC Advances, 2021
Single-phase chalcopyrite has been synthesised and its phase behaviour has been investigated. Results help to rationalise different findings in the literature about this important material.

The mechanical behaviour of an ultrafine grained Ti-47Al-2Cr (at%) alloy in tension and compression and at different temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A bulk ultrafine grained (UFG) Ti-47Al-2Cr (at%) alloy has been produced using a powder metallurgy process that combines high energy mechanical milling (HEMM) of a mixture of Ti, Al and Cr powders to produce a Ti/Al/Cr composite powder and hot isostatic ...

Distinct Microstructural Characteristic Lengths Defining Notch Fatigue Crack Initiation and Propagation, and Defect Tolerance in Advanced Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of modes of microcrack nucleation, growth and temporary arrestment at different boundaries, with the criteria for crack propagation in three scenarios: (1) large notch, (2) defect/small sharp notch, and (3) long crack. This work revisits and integrates results on the fatigue behavior of advanced bainitic steels (in particular ...

Wear behavior of Al-7%Si-0.3%Mg/melon shell ash particulate composites

open access: yesHeliyon, 2017
The present study examined wear characteristics of A356/melon shell ash particulate composites. Dry-sliding the stainless steel ball against specimen disc revealed the abrasive wear behavior of the composites under loads of 2 and 5N. The composite showed

Integration of OpenCV‐Based Microscopic Adhesive Volume Measurement Into a Pyiron Workflow for Automated Data Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Residual adhesive after electrode loading in adhesive‐assisted resistance spot welding is quantified through a traceable experimental‐to‐digital workflow. Chromatic confocal topography provides calibrated surface‐height data, while OpenCV detects the electrode imprint and integrates adhesive height into comparable volume metrics.

Djordje Drobnjak - an Admirable Life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Our teacher, Professor Djordje Drobnjak, died in late April 2017. He died quietly, as he had lived. We, his students and collaborators, took two and a half years to collect our contributions to this memorial issue of the journal "Metallurgical & ...

The Influence of Field‐Assisted Sintering Technology (FAST) Temperature and Cooling Rate on the Microstructural Evolution in Gamma‐Titanium Aluminide Alloy GE4822

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the Field Assisted Sintering Technology (FAST) parameters, dwell temperature and cooling rate, significantly influences the microstructural evolution in titanium aluminide GE4822. Significant γ‐lamellar colonies develop only upon cooling through the α‐transus.

An investigation on dry sliding wear behaviour of pressure infiltrated AA1050-XMg/B4C composites

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2018
In this study, the effect of Mg alloying addition (1–4 wt.%) on dry sliding wear behaviour of AA1050 matrix composites was investigated. Composites were produced by the pressure infiltration technique at 800°C and had a B4C particle volume fraction of 60%
