Integration of Metallurgical Engineering Education
JOM, 1955As a response to rapidly growing specialization in various branches of metallurgy, it is proposed that undergraduate education in metallurgical engineering should be built up around four principal scientific themes: 1—thermodynamics, 2—structure, 3— mechanics, and 4—rate processes.

The focus of the VMD moved from vacuum melting of materials to metallurgical coatings.
