Electrically tunable harmonics in time-modulated metasurfaces for wavefront engineering

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
Modulation of metasurfaces in time gives rise to several exotic space–time scattering phenomena by breaking the reciprocity constraint and generation of higher-order frequency harmonics. We introduce a new design paradigm for time-modulated metasurfaces,

Transformation-Invariant Metamaterials [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
The fundamental semiconductor concept of doping has recently been transplanted to photonics in the platform of epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) media. By doping nonmagnetic impurities, ENZ media can exhibit almost arbitrary magnetism. However, this original photonic doping approach results only in isotropic media and thus cannot achieve impedance matching for ...

Ballistic metamaterials

open access: yesOptica, 2020
We report the theoretical prediction and experimental realization of the optical phenomenon of “ballistic resonance.” This resonance, resulting from the interplay between free charge motion in confining geometries and periodic driving electromagnetic fields, can be utilized to achieve negative permittivity at frequencies well above the bulk plasma ...

Optical Anapole Metamaterial [PDF]

open access: yesACS Nano, 2018
The toroidal dipole is a localized electromagnetic excitation independent from the familiar magnetic and electric dipoles. It corresponds to currents flowing along minor loops of a torus. Interference of radiating induced toroidal and electric dipoles leads to anapole, a nonradiating charge-current configuration.

A Health Data Map-Based Ensemble of Deep Domain Adaptation Under Inhomogeneous Operating Conditions for Fault Diagnosis of a Planetary Gearbox

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
A deep learning model trained under a specific operating condition of the gearbox often experiences an overfitting problem, which makes it impossible to diagnose faults under different operating conditions.

Reconfigurable Photonic Metamaterials [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2011
We introduce mechanically reconfigurable photonic metamaterials (RPMs) as a flexible platform for realizing metamaterial devices with reversible and large-range tunable characteristics in the optical part of the spectrum. Here we illustrate this concept for a temperature-driven RPM exhibiting reversible relative transmission changes of up to 50%.

Highly tunable low frequency metamaterial cavity for vibration localization

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Metamaterial cavity has gathered much attention recently due to its capability of localizing vibration energy. Despite the active research, however, there are still big technical challenges not solved yet.
