Optical Anapole Metamaterial [PDF]

open access: yesACS Nano, 2018
The toroidal dipole is a localized electromagnetic excitation independent from the familiar magnetic and electric dipoles. It corresponds to currents flowing along minor loops of a torus. Interference of radiating induced toroidal and electric dipoles leads to anapole, a nonradiating charge-current configuration.

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

Symmetric surface waves along a metamaterial dielectric waveguide and a perfectly conducting cylinder covered by a metamaterial layer

open access: yesAdvanced Electromagnetics, 2018
Existence of symmetric complex waves in a metamaterial dielectric rod and a perfectly conducting cylinder of circular cross section covered by a concentric layer of metamaterial, a metamaterial Goubau line, is proved.

Application of Complementary Split Ring Resonator for Hyperthermia

open access: yesJIF (Jurnal Ilmu Fisika), 2021
One of the most promising research for cancer therapy with less side effects is hyperthermia treatment using metamaterial. This treatment may stand independently or adjunct to other cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and others ...

Effect of Thermal and Mechanical Deformation of Metamaterial FDM Components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
At Lancaster University, research is currently investigating the use of rapid manufacturing (RM) to realise metamaterials, although key to the success of this project is the development of an understanding of how coated RM parts deform under thermal and ...

Tuning chirality in photonic metamaterials with semiconductor quantum dots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Recently we have shown that the classical phenomenon of optical activity, which is traditionally associated with chirality (helicity) of organic molecules, proteins and inorganic structures, can be observed in artificial planar media which exhibit ...

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Discrete Euler–Bernoulli beam lattices with beyond nearest connections

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
The propagation of elastic waves on discrete periodic Euler–Bernoulli mass-beam lattices is characterised by the competition between coupled translational and rotational degrees-of-freedom at the mass-beam junctions.

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Non-Markovian exceptional points by interpolating quantum channels

open access: yesnpj Quantum Information
Exceptional points (EPs) occur in non-Hermitian systems where eigenvalues and eigenvectors coalesce. In open quantum systems, EPs are typically studied via non-Hermitian effective Hamiltonians or Liouvillians, but these omit the full generality of ...
