Alcohol consumption and the risk of gastric intestinal metaplasia in a U.S. Veterans population

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Background Chronic alcohol use is a risk factor for non-cardia gastric adenocarcinoma. However, it is less well understood whether alcohol use is a risk factor for premalignant mucosal changes, namely gastric intestinal metaplasia.

Is gastric intestinal metaplasia a risk factor for colorectal neoplasms?

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2021

Cell proliferation and apoptosis in gastric cancer and intestinal metaplasia Proliferação celular e apoptose em câncer gástrico e metaplasia intestinal

open access: yesArquivos de Gastroenterologia, 2005
BACKGROUND: Higher proliferation is commonly observed in cancer cells. Apoptosis can be a useful measure of a tumor cell kinetic. Alteration of the balance between proliferation and apoptosis is associated with cancer.

Subtypes of intestinal metaplasia and Helicobacter pylori. [PDF]

open access: yesGut, 1992
To determine whether there is a relationship between the presence of H pylori and the various subtypes of intestinal metaplasia in the gastric antrum, 2274 antral gastroscopic biopsies from 533 patients were examined. H pylori was found in 289 patients. Intestinal metaplasia in general was found in 135 patients.

Histological Helicobacter pylori Density Might Not be Associated With the Severity of Neutrophilic Inflammatory Activity. [PDF]

open access: yesDEN Open
ABSTRACT Background While the Updated Sydney System classifies Helicobacter pylori density together with inflammatory scores, the clinical relevance of bacterial load remains uncertain. This study aimed to assess the association between histological H. pylori density and the severity of gastric inflammatory activity.

Towards deep-learning based detection and quantification of intestinal metaplasia on digitized gastric biopsies: a multi-expert comparative study [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Current gastric cancer (GCa) risk systems are prone to errors since they evaluate a visual estimation of intestinal metaplasia percentages in histopathology images of gastric mucosa to assign a risk.

How to Define the Gastroesophageal Junction. [PDF]

open access: yesDig Endosc
ABSTRACT Adenocarcinomas at the gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) are increasingly common worldwide. Current classifications, such as Siewert type II and Nishi, provide a foundation, but establishing a transparent and widely accepted framework could considerably enhance identification and treatment efforts.
