A Fuzzy Search Engine Weighted Approach to Result Merging for Metasearch

open access: closed, 2007
Each search engine queried by a metasearch engine returns results in the form of a result list of documents. The key issue is to combine these lists to achieve the best performance. The salient contribution of this paper is a result merging model that applies Yager's fuzzy aggregation Ordered Weight Average, OWA, operator in combination with the ...

The NLM Gateway: a metasearch engine for disparate resources.

open access: closed, 2004
The U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) has created a metasearch engine called the NLM Gateway at the URL “gateway.nlm.nih.gov”. The Gateway allows the user to issue one search that takes place on multiple NLM retrieval engines.

An Intelligent Metasearch Engine with Link Prediction and Page Clipping Generation Capabilities

open access: closed, 2011
This chapter presents an intelligent metasearch engine that can recommend a user’s next hyperlink access and relevant paragraphs extracted from metasearch results. The proposed design is based on the primacy effect of browsing behavior, that users prefer top ranking items in search results. Three search methods were implemented in this engine.

Classification and fusion results in metasearch engines

2012 Next Generation Networks and Services (NGNS), 2012
Searching for information on the Internet is not only an essential way to get information, but also a strategic tool to obtain a wide variety of information. Unfortunately, Web is so huge and so unstructured that the collection of specific, fair and useful information becomes a daunting ant time-wasting task.

Building efficient and effective metasearch engines

ACM Computing Surveys, 2002
Frequently a user's information needs are stored in the databases of multiple search engines. It is inconvenient and inefficient for an ordinary user to invoke multiple search engines and identify useful documents from the returned results. To support unified access to multiple search engines, a metasearch engine can be constructed.

The impact of positioning on click-through-rates in hotel metasearch engines

Journal of Vacation Marketing, 2021
The recent arrival of the metasearch as a distribution channel within the hotel industry has the potential to provide hotels less dependency on online travel agencies. Metasearch engines display different reservation options for the same hotel in the same interface, which might include online travel agencies and the official hotel website ...

Advanced metasearch engines

Proceedings of the 18th ACM conference on Information and knowledge management, 2009
A metasearch engine is a system, which is connected to different search engines. In response to a user query, it invokes suitable search engines for the query, merges the information returned by these search engines and output the merged result. There are two types of metasearch engines: one type for unstructured data (mostly text) and the other for ...
