Early Paleozoic intracontinental granites in the Guangzhou region of South China: Partial melting of a metasediment-dominated crustal source

, 2020
Whether the formation of early Paleozoic granites in the South China Block was related to intracontinental orogenic processes or oceanic subduction continues to be debated. Here, we present whole-rock major element, trace element, and Sr Nd isotopic data,

Lithostratigraphy of Paleozoic metasediments in southern Fiordland, New Zealand

New Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, 2023
ABSTRACT The lithostratigraphy of Early Paleozoic metasediments from southern Fiordland is described, with three groups and 14 formations formally defined. In southwest Fiordland, the Fanny Bay Group is a quartz‐rich succession of metamorphosed sandstone, mudstone, and quartzite; the Cameron Group is a lithologically variable ...

Raman spectra of carbonaceous material in metasediments: a new geothermometer

Journal of Metamorphic Geology, 2002
AbstractMetasedimentary rocks generally contain carbonaceous material (CM) deriving from the evolution of organic matter originally present in the host sedimentary rock. During metamorphic processes, this organic matter is progressively transformed into graphite s.s.

Precambrian ammonium biogeochemistry: a study of the Moine metasediments, Scotland

Chemical Geology, 1998
The content and isotopic composition of ammoniacal nitrogen have been determined in a suite of amphibolite facies metasediments of Precambrian age. Whole-rock samples and mica separates from the Moine Succession (Proterozoic) of Scotland were analysed by a combination of capacitance manometry and static vacuum mass-spectrometry.

Metamorphism of metasediments at the scale of an orogen: a key to the Tertiary geodynamic evolution of the Alps

Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 2008
Abstract Major discoveries in metamorphic petrology, as well as other geological disciplines, have been made in the Alps. The regional distribution of Late Cretaceous–Tertiary metamorphic conditions, documented in post-Hercynian metasediments across the entire Alpine belt from Corsica–Tuscany in the west to Vienna in the east, is presented in

Ammonium as a biomarker in Precambrian metasediments

Precambrian Research, 2001
Abstract The following article assesses the potential of ammonium as a biomarker in Precambrian metasediments. A modern marine environment is considered to highlight the processes that contribute to the isotopic composition of organic nitrogen, notably the roles played by nitrogen-fixing organisms (cyanobacteria) and denitrifying bacteria. The carbon

Caledonian metamorphism of metasediments from Franz Josef Land

GFF, 2019
The petrography, detrital zircon age distribution and 40Ar–39Ar ages of three samples from the Nagurskaya drill core of westernmost Franz Josef Land have been analyzed and are compared to similar rocks from the Lomonosov Ridge. The analyzed rocks, from near the base of the drill hole, consist of fine-grained psammitic to semipelitic schists ...
