Potassium loss during metasomatic alteration of mica pyroxenite from Oldoinyo Lengai, northern Tanzania: contrasts with fenitization

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1992
Mica pyroxenite xenoliths, occurring as the cores of nephelinite and ijolite bombs in the pyroclastic deposits of the active volcano Oldoinyo Lengai, have undergone metasomatism in which K was lost and Fe2+ and Ti gained. This is unlike the alkali and ferric iron addition that typifies most examples of metastomatism adjacent to peralkaline igneous ...

Reaction rind formation in the Catalina Schist: Deciphering a history of mechanical mixing and metasomatic alteration

Chemical Geology, 2014
Abstract In the subduction-related Catalina Schist, reaction zones or ‘rinds’ developed at contacts of metamorphosed mafic blocks with chemically distinct melange matrix. These rinds exhibit complex chemical compositions that defy simple, single-process explanations.

Potassium-argon isotopic age determinations from the metasomatic alteration of the Great Limestone, Northern Pennine Orefield

Proceedings of the Yorkshire Geological Society, 1992
SUMMARY K-Ar isotopic ages of illite-bearing iron carbonates associated with metasomatism of the Great Limestone are argued to relate to mineralisation which occurred between 252±5 and 240±6Ma. There is evidence that the ages of some of the illites investigated may have been partially reset by later hydrothermal events occurring between 240Ma

Genesis and composition of borates in the metasomatically altered dolomitic, rhodochrosite, and calcareous marbles of Japan

Geochemistry International, 2012
The paper addresses the composition and genesis of endogenous borates from hypabyssal skarn deposits of Japan (Honshu Island) that were formed after dolomitic, rhodochrosite, and calcareous marbles in the contact aureoles of magmatic intrusions of diverse felsicity (from granites to diorite-monzonites).

Effects of Metasomatism on Mineral Systems and Their Host Rocks: Alkali Metasomatism, Skarns, Greisens, Tourmalinites, Rodingites, Black-Wall Alteration and Listvenites

2012
Heat-liberating events, such as igneous intrusions emplaced into cool crustal rocks, will result not only in loss of heat to the surrounding environment, but also in the transport of volatile components, which are responsible for metasomatic processes.

Hydrothermal. Alteration of a Variscian Granite, Magmatic Autometasomatism and Fault Related Vein Metasomatism

1987
Two types of hydrothermal alteration can be recognized in a biotite granite of Variscan age in Northern Switzerland. The first is related to the intrusion of the granite and lead to the replacement of K-spar and biotite by muscovite, of plagioclase by sericite and calcite and to a chloritization of biotite. This process affected the granite as a whole.
