Metasurface augmented lens antennas

open access: yes, 2022
In this paper the theoretical methodology of lens antennas augmented with metasurfaces is proposed and demonstrated with a 28 GHz 2D Luneburg lens. The paper presents details on a method of images to design a metasurface augmenting a lens antenna.

Theoretical study on dynamical planar-chirality switching in checkerboard-like metasurfaces

open access: yesEPJ Applied Metamaterials, 2017
In this paper, we show that the handedness of a planar chiral checkerboard-like metasurface can be dynamically switched by modulating the local sheet impedance of the metasurface structure.

Near‐Unity Chiral Lasing Enabled by Quasi‐Bound States in the Continuum

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoimprinted chiral array that supports bound states in the continuum is doped with an efficient non‐chiral molecule (Rhodamine‐B) acting as gain medium to produce fully circularly polarized lasing emission. The chiral lasing wavelength can be tuned across the emission band of Rhodamine‐B by adjusting the coating thickness of the TiO2 high refractive ...

Metasurface-based planar microlenses for SPAD pixels

open access: yes
In this paper we present two design generations of metasurface-based planar microlenses implemented on Front-Side Illumination SPAD pixels. This kind of microlens is an alternative to conventional reflow microlens.

High‐Sensitivity Terahertz Gas Sensing Enabled by Undercut Metal‐Dielectric‐Metal Metamaterial

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A terahertz (THz) metamaterial gas sensor is demonstrated using a metal–dielectric–metal (MDM) absorber with an undercut dielectric layer, which enlarges the gas‐replaced volume and strengthens refractive‐index perturbation of the resonant mode. A reflection dip at 0.766 THz is observed, and acetone–nitrogen tests yield concentration‐dependent shifts ...

Ti3C2Tx MXene/Silver Composite Foams For Lightweight, High‐Performance Electromagnetic Interference Shielding and Joule Heating

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Ultrathin MXene/EMF composite foams achieve a specific shielding efficiency of 749.6 dB.dB·cm3$\mathrm{dB}\cdot {\mathrm{cm}}^{3}$/g, while the silver‐enhanced MXene/Ag/EMF reaches 81.4 dB shielding effectiveness at just 1.0 mm thickness. Both composites exhibit rapid Joule heating, retain stability up to 250∘C$^\circ{\rm C}$, and withstand 1000 ...

Programmable Acoustic Metasurfaces [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, 2019
AbstractMetasurfaces open up unprecedented potential for wave engineering using subwavelength sheets. However, a severe limitation of current acoustic metasurfaces is their poor reconfigurability to achieve distinct functions on demand. Here a programmable acoustic metasurface that contains an array of tunable subwavelength unit cells to break the ...
