A Practical Real‐Time Observer‐Based Radiation Prediction Algorithm for Solar Plants

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A novel radiation prediction method is proposed. The model's existence is verified by applying real data to an offline identifier. An adaptive state/parameter estimator is developed to identify the model. The identification process occurs in real‐time, independent of specific situations. The method offers universal radiation prediction.

Robustness of nuclear core activity reconstruction by data assimilation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We apply a data assimilation techniques, inspired from meteorological applications, to perform an optimal reconstruction of the neutronic activity field in a nuclear core. Both measurements, and information coming from a numerical model, are used.

Off‐Grid Solar Systems: An Experimental Work and Systematic Techno‐Economic Analysis

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
In the study mentioned above, experimental monitoring and economic evaluation of two off‐grid PV systems were conducted using a low‐cost data logger. The results suggest that basic DC systems are economically feasible compared to grid power, but that AC systems require further cost‐cutting to achieve financial viability.

The concept of a unified meteorological and radiological monitoring system based on hyperion technology

open access: yesNuclear Technology and Radiation Protection, 2004
For the purpose of tracing the migration of radioactive materials in the environment it is essential to monitor meteorological and radiological parameters by a unified measurement system, because of the strong correlation of meteorological and radiological parameters.

Experimental and Numerical Study on Enhancing the Performance of a Stepped Solar Still Using Porous Sponge Materials

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Three designs were built and tested: a single‐slope still, a six‐stepped still, and a six‐stepped still with 5 mm sponge sheets. The novelty lies in fixing porous sponge sheets to the vertical faces of the steps. Yield of freshwater and instantaneous efficiency were determined in various combinations, that is, base, stepped, and stepped‐cum‐sponge ...
