Sanitary Logging in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve: One Problem, One Legislation but Different Criteria and Different Treatments

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bark beetles are small insects that inhabit the bark of trees. When their population increases excessively, they can weaken the trees and cause their death. In México, federal regulations obligate forest landowners to carry out sanitary logging to control bark beetle outbreaks in adherence to official procedures.

Desertification Risk: Bibliometric Analysis and Future Research Directions

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Desertification, driven by climatic and anthropogenic factors, is one of the most pressing global environmental challenges, causing significant economic, ecological, and social consequences. A bibliometric analysis was performed to identify research trends and gaps in the desertification risk topic.

Evaluation of Sediment Connectivity Indices to Improve the Prediction of the Spatiotemporal Variability of Sediment Yield for a Large River Basin (Wei River, China)

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sediment connectivity between source areas and the main streams or local sinks is a complex and dynamic process, especially in large basins due to multiple heterogeneities and interactions between connectivity components. Sediment connectivity indices are promising tools to investigate sediment transport, especially in data‐scarce or large ...

Carbon Stock and Environmental Variations of Typical Plantations in Mufu Mountain in Hubei Province, China

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Forest ecosystems play a critical role in the global carbon cycle. As a significant terrestrial carbon sink, plantations exhibit carbon stock patterns that are shaped by tree species composition, stand structure, and environmental conditions. Here, we investigated typical plantation types in the Mufu Mountain, Hubei Province.

SSPS Meteorological Conditions, 1982 — 1984

1986
Insolation data and information concerning clouds and the transparency of the atmosphere are important for solar energy applications. It is also important to know the wind direction and force at a plant location due to the influence that wind may have on the heat losses, dust accumulation, and protection needed at the plant. The data used for this work

Effects of meteorological conditions on spore plumes

International Journal of Biometeorology, 2002
Fungal spores are an ever-present component of the atmosphere, and have long been known to trigger asthma and hay fever symptoms in sensitive individuals. The atmosphere around Tulsa has been monitored for airborne spores and pollen with Burkard spore traps at several sampling stations.

Forecasting unfavourable meteorological conditions

1991
The skill score of an air pollution forecast significantly depends on the reliable forecast of unfavourable meteorological conditions which are known to contribute greatly to the increase of pollutant concentrations for given emission parameters.

Relationship between suicidal cases and meteorological conditions

Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine, 2009
Meteorological factors are well known to modulate human health status and the rate of death cases. The suicidal rate might have been influenced by climatic and seasonal triggering factors. In this study 4918 suicidal cases (3099 male, 1819 female) in Budapest were investigated in connection with climatic data, as daily maximum, minimum temperature, and

Meteorologic Conditions and Respiratory Syncytial Virus Activity

Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2012
The factors that determine the initiation and persistence of yearly epidemics of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis are not well known. A limited number of studies have found that meteorologic conditions could be associated with RSV activity. We analyzed the association of certain atmospheric conditions with RSV activity, as determined by ...

Atmospheric optical properties and meteorological conditions

Atmospheric Environment (1967), 1981
Abstract This paper discusses relationships which exist between the optical properties of-the atmosphere and meteorological parameters and conditions. Atmospheric visibility is determined by the optical effects of particulate matter (aerosols) in the atmosphere.
