INDEXING OF METEOROLOGICAL DROUGHT
Bulletin of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Geography, 2019Drought is a serious extreme climatic event that negatively affects the physical environment and water systems causing disruptions in the hydrological cycle of the region. This is a stochastic natural hazard caused by persistent rainfall scarcity. The life cycle of the drought begins with a meteorological phenomenon, and further influence is realized ...

Comparison of Meteorological Drought and Hydrological Drought Index
Journal of the Korean Water Resources Association, 2015본 연구는 기상학적 가뭄지수가 수문학적 가뭄에 대한 모사정도를 검토하였다. 기상학적 가뭄지수 중에서 강수량을 변수로 하는 SPI(Standardized Precipitation Index)와 강수량 및 증발산량을 변수로 하는 SPEI(Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index)를 이용하였고, 수문학적 가뭄 평가를 위하여 월 총 유입량과 하천수 가뭄지수인 SDI(Streamflow Drought Index)를 계산하여, 최종적으로 기상학적 가뭄지수와 수문학적 가뭄지수와의 상관정도를 분석하였다.

Three-dimensional linkage between meteorological drought and vegetation drought across China
Science of The Total Environment, 2023Advance knowledge of the linkage between meteorological drought and vegetation drought is relevant for the risk of droughts and the impacts on vegetation health. This study employs a 3-dimensional clustering identification method to capture drought events and their characteristics (i.e., drought severity, intensity, area, center, and trajectory) in ...

Droughts propagate through the hydrologic cycle, leading to water deficiencies in various hydro-climate variables, such as rainfall, streamflow, soil moisture, and/or groundwater. Understanding drought propagation characteristics is an essential issue in water resources planning and management.

Probabilistic analysis of hydrological drought characteristics using meteorological drought
Hydrological Sciences Journal, 2013Abstract Droughts are an inevitable consequence of climate variability and are pervasive across many regions. Their effects can vary on an extensive scale, depending on the type of drought and people's vulnerability. Crucial characteristics of both hydrological (groundwater, streamflow) and meteorological (precipitation) droughts are related to their ...

Monitoring Drought: An Evaluation of Meteorological Drought Indices
Geography Compass, 2009Abstract A uniform method for defining, monitoring and quantifying the severity of drought conditions does not exist. This article introduces some of the tools (e.g. drought indices) that are commonly used in the United States to monitor meteorological drought, describes the strengths and weaknesses of these tools, and makes ...

Meteorological Drought Occurrence in Slovakia
2017Slovakia is located in the Central Europe, and its complex surface consists of mountains, valleys, but also lowlands, which are crucial for agricultural production. In the neighbouring countries, especially in Hungary and the Czech Republic, there has been paid great attention to drought occurrence for a longer time.

Sahel drought: Meteorological or agricultural?
International Journal of Climatology, 1989AbstractMeteorological definitions of drought are deemed to reveal little of the effects of water deficiencies upon the inhabitants of arid regions. An agricultural definition of drought is obtained using a water‐balance model of the moisture available to millet (Pennisetum typhoides). The model accepts inputs of rainfall, potential evapotranspiration ...
