Risk Level Analysis of Lightning Strike with Simple Additive Weighting Method in Gowa Region

open access: yesJurnal Penelitian Fisika dan Aplikasinya, 2018
Gowa regency is one of the areas in the province of South Sulawesi that has a high potential of lightning events. This is influenced by its geographical location which is close to the mountainous area.

Low‐Intensity Precipitation Dominates Peninsular Spain (1961–2022)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Spatial analysis across Spain shows a shift in precipitation regimes (1961–2022) toward more frequent low‐intensity precipitation and reduced high‐intensity events, with localised increases in heavy precipitation along some coastal areas. This redistribution—captured through changes in precipitation frequency (RF) and volumetric contribution (RC ...

The Purpri Fault: A newly identified active fault in East Kolaka, Indonesia, based on HypoDD and DInSAR [PDF]

open access: yesGeološki Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva
The Purpri Fault, a newly identified active fault in East Kolaka, Indonesia, has been analyzed using an integrated geophysical approach, combining HypoDD earthquake relocation and DInSAR ground deformation analysis.

Satellite and Reanalysis Dataset Dependence of ETCCDI Extreme Precipitation Trends in Paraná, Southern Brazil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Extreme precipitation trends detected in Paraná, Southern Brazil (1983–2024), are strongly conditioned by the dataset used, with reanalyses indicating coherent inland drying and longer dry spells, observations retaining stronger mesoscale heterogeneity, and satellite products often showing declines in short‐duration extremes. Monthly diagnostics reveal

Long‐Term Analysis of Winter Wheat Yield and Climatic Influences in Ukraine

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Long‐term field data (1968–2024) show that winter wheat yields in central Ukraine increased despite warming, but yield stability declined. Rising temperatures, more frequent soil moisture droughts and shortened winter calm increasingly limit productivity.

Analysis of changes in daily temperature and precipitation extreme in Jakarta on period of 1986-2014

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Climate change due to an increase in greenhouse gas concentrations has led to changes in extreme climate events. IPCC 2007 already predicted that average global temperatures would reach 0.74⁰ C in the last 100 years (1906-2005).

Multi‐Timescale Drought Evolution in Greece (1960–2022) From Station‐Based SPI and SPEI

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Using homogenized data from 67 HNMS stations in Greece (1960–2022), we calculated SPI and SPEI at 1–12‐month scales to characterize meteorological to hydrological drought. We quantified the network‐based spatial extent of drought, compared SPI and SPEI drought signals, and tested changes with autocorrelation‐robust Mann–Kendall trends and Pettitt ...

Operational numerical weather prediction with ICON on GPUs (version 2024.10) [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
Numerical weather prediction and climate models require continuous adaptation to take advantage of advances in high-performance computing hardware. This paper presents the port of the ICON model to GPUs using OpenACC compiler directives for numerical ...

Station‐Based Assessment of Sub‐Seasonal Climate Trends in the Tyrolean Alps (Austria)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
In this study, we quantify the magnitude and significance of sub‐seasonal trends in the Tyrolean Alps (Austria) by collecting, processing and analysing meteorological observations from a dense network of climate stations. Our analysis indicates a warming rate of 0.43°C/dec over 1964–2023, greater sub‐seasonal trend variability when the analysis window ...

Machine Learning‐Based Correction of Reanalysis Surface Radiation Fluxes Using Ground‐Measured Data in the Southern Brazilian Pampa Biome

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ERA5 provides more accurate surface radiation flux estimates than MERRA2 across the Southern Brazilian Pampa. Machine learning models, particularly Random Forest, further improved the precision of reanalysis data for climate applications.
