The Impact of the Direct Effect of Aerosols on Meteorology and Air Quality Using Aerosol Optical Depth Assimilation During the KORUS‐AQ Campaign

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research - Atmospheres, 2019
To quantify the impact of the direct aerosol effect accurately, this study incorporated the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) aerosol optical depth (AOD) into a coupled meteorology‐chemistry model. We designed three model simulations to observe the

Comparative Analysis of Hydrogen Production and Economic Feasibility: Direct versus Indirect Coupling of Photovoltaic Systems with Electrolyzers

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
This article examines the efficiency and cost‐effectiveness of green hydrogen production strategies: direct and indirect, with and without battery. Results show that the indirect configuration with battery yields the highest hydrogen production and profitability. The study discusses technical, energetic, and economic trade‐offs, providing insights into

Extratropical Cyclones: A Century of Research on Meteorology’s Centerpiece

open access: yesMeteorological Monographs, 2019
The year 1919 was important in meteorology, not only because it was the year that the American Meteorological Society was founded, but also for two other reasons.

Topographic thresholds for gully head formation in badlands

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 47, Issue 15, Page 3558-3587, December 2022., 2022
Gully topographic threshold model was extended to badlands, on the basis of data collected in the Mediterranean environment in Italy and Spain, characterized by diversified climatic, lithological, geological and anthropogenic settings. Criteria for the attribution of curve number values has been more objectively defined in order to reduce arbitrariness

“As if every particle was alive”: The Charged Canvas of Constable’s Hadleigh Castle

open access: yesBritish Art Studies, 2018
John Constable painted Hadleigh Castle in the months that followed the death of his wife, Maria, in late 1828. Whereas interpretations of this bleak masterpiece frequently stress its melancholic introspection, this article suggests that it can also be ...

A note on the use of the word 'likelihood' in statistics and meteorology [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
We highlight the different uses of the word 'likelihood' that have arisen in statistics and meteorology, and make the recommendation that one of these uses should be dropped to prevent confusion and misunderstanding.

Extratropical Transition of Southwest Pacific Tropical Cyclones. Part II: Midlatitude Circulation Characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This second of two papers on extratropical transition (ET) over the southwest Pacific Ocean focuses on the variability of ET. A climatology of ET onset based on a previously described objective technique shows that ET commences 158 of latitude nearer the

Analyzing individual rent price ratios in eastern German agricultural land markets: A GAMLSS approach

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract This study explores the rent price ratio in agricultural land markets, crucial for evaluating market efficiency, policy needs, and farmer decision‐making. Traditionally, the analyses faced challenges due to the absence of concurrent sale and rent data for the same land, potentially leading to biased results.

Segmentation for radar images based on active contour [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
We exam various geometric active contour methods for radar image segmentation. Due to special properties of radar images, we propose our new model based on modified Chan-Vese functional. Our method is efficient in separating non-meteorological noises from meteorological images.
