Feasibility of Wind‐Powered Green Hydrogen Production via a Hybrid Graph Neural Network‐Transformer Forecasting Model

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate long‐term wind speed forecasting is pivotal for the strategic planning of renewable energy infrastructure, particularly for assessing the techno‐economic feasibility of wind‐powered green hydrogen facilities. However, capturing the complex spatiotemporal dependencies in climate data remains a significant challenge. This study proposes

On the longitudinal structure of the transient day-to-day variation of the semidiurnal tide in the mid-latitude lower thermosphere − I. Winter season [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2001
The longitudinal structure of the day-to-day variations of semidiurnal tide amplitudes is analysed based on coordinated mesosphere/lower thermosphere wind measurements at several stations during three winter campaigns.

Spatio‐Temporal Dual‐Encoder Transformer for Short‐Term Regional Wind Power Forecasting

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ST‐DualFormer separates temporal and spatial encoding to model complex dependencies in regional wind power forecasting. The fused dual‐stream representation enables accurate short‐term regional forecasts from multi‐farm meteorological and historical power data. The method achieved 5.25% nMAE and 7.53% nRMSE for three‐day‐ahead forecasting on real‐world

A new, high-resolution surface mass balance map of Antarctica (1979-2010) based on regional atmospheric climate modeling

open access: yes, 2012
A new, high resolution (27 km) surface mass balance (SMB) map of the Antarctic ice sheet is presented, based on output of a regional atmospheric climate model that includes snowdrift physics and is forced by the most recent reanalysis data from the ...

Temperature Coefficient Analysis of Polycrystalline PV Modules Under Field Conditions in Ghana

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Field measurements from a commercial PV plant in Ghana show polycrystalline module temperature coefficients of −0.473%/°C—31% higher than manufacturer values—highlighting the risk of underestimating energy losses and degradation in fast‐growing West African solar deployments.

First in situ measurement of the vertical distribution of ice volume in a mesospheric ice cloud during the ECOMA/MASS rocket-campaign [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2009
We present in situ observations of mesospheric ice particles with a new particle detector which combines a classical Faraday cup with the active photoionization of particles and subsequent detection of photoelectrons.

A Novel Bipolar DC Connection Strategy for Photovoltaic Power Plants With a 50% Reduction in DC Cabling Length

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Bipolar configuration is a new topology in the direct current (DC) system of photovoltaic power plants, which is topologically analogous to the bipolar configuration utilised in High‐Voltage Direct Current power transmission systems. DC cable length and copper usage are reduced by 50% using a bipolar configuration.

Green swans and blue skies: Climate change and insolvency risk for financial institutions

open access: yesInternational Insolvency Review, EarlyView.
Abstract This lecture in honour of the late Gabriel Moss QC and Ian Fletcher QC examines the challenge of climate‐related financial risk. Prudential regulators and central banks recognize that the systemic nature of climate‐related financial risk makes it an emerging vulnerability relevant to cross‐border insolvency resolution.

Cleaner air brings better views, more sunshine and warmer summer days in the Netherlands

open access: yes, 2012
Introduction. In the late 1980s Atsumu Ohmura and several others (e.g. Ohmura and Lang, 1989) discovered that the amount of solar radiation reaching the surface had decreased at many radiation measurement sites between 1960 and 1990.

CFD simulation of dense gas dispersion in neutral atmospheric boundary layer with OpenFOAM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this study, Monin–Obukhov similarity theory is used to specify the profiles of velocity, turbulent kinetic energy (k), and eddy dissipation rate (ϵ) in atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) flow.
