Antennas for Meteosat satellites [PDF]
The paper describes antenna activities for Meteosat program developed under ESA's technical management. The program started in the 70's and the first satellite was launched in 1977 with VLF, UHF, L- and S-band antennas. The operational Meteosat satellites carried UHF, L- and S-band antennas.

LSA SAF Meteosat FRP products – Part 1: Algorithms, product contents, and analysis [PDF]
Characterizing changes in landscape fire activity at better than hourly temporal resolution is achievable using thermal observations of actively burning fires made from geostationary Earth Observation (EO) satellites.

Sunshine duration climate maps of Belgium and Luxembourg based on Meteosat and in-situ observations [PDF]
Sunshine duration was historically the traditional parameter to quantify solar radiation. In the present study, we propose to benefit from the measurements made with Campbell-Stokes recorders at 18 sites in Belgium and Luxembourg to generate maps of ...

Coupled observation‐operator approximations in outer‐loop coupling data assimilation
We present a methodology for coupled variational data assimilation that allows the effect of coupled observation operators whilst maintaining separate minimisations across model components. This allows us to constrain the atmosphere, ocean, and sea‐ice components of our coupled model directly from satellite radiances. We illustrate the system in action

The In-Orbit Performance of SEVIRI From Observations of Mercury and Venus
We investigated various aspects of the in-orbit performance of a Spinning Enhanced Visible Infra-Red Imager (SEVIRI) on Meteosat-10 (launch: 05 Jul 2012) and -11 (launch: 15 Jul 2015) with images, where Mercury or Venus stood close to earth.

Neighborhood methods are commonly used in verification to avoid the double‐penalty issue. This study evaluates such methods for the assimilation of infrared and visible satellite observations and extends them to multiscale assimilation. Moreover, a novel technique is tested aimed at mitigating complex biases and structural errors in real‐world model ...
