Relationships Between Base-Catalyzed Hydrolysis Rates or Glutathione Reactivity for Acrylates and Methacrylates and Their NMR Spectra or Heat of Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The NMR chemical shift, i.e., the π-electron density of the double bond, of acrylates and methacrylates is related to the reactivity of their monomers.

Determination of the Coupling Coefficient C(ν) from the Calculations of the Low-frequency Raman Spectrum in PMMA [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Using the atom-atom potentials method, we have calculated the low-frequency Raman spectra of molecular crystal model with elements of disorder (Poly-Methyl-Methacrylate) PMMA that has a flexible molecule. Based on the results the coupling factor C(\nu) has been calculated.

Biologically‐Inspired Melt Electrowriting for the Generation of Highly Biomimetic Functional Myocardium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, melt electrowriting is used to fabricate a 3D printed scaffold design that generates engineered cardiac tissues with in‐plane contraction, mimicking natural myocardium. It is shown that these tissues display advanced maturation and functionality.

Polymer Brush Growth by Surface‐Initiated Ring‐Opening Polymerization from a Cross‐Linked Polymer Thin Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A stable cross‐linked ultra‐thin polymer coating for surface‐initiated ring‐opening polymerization (SI‐ROP) of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane and ε‐caprolactone for growth of high grafting density poly(dimethyl siloxane) and poly(caprolactone) brushes is developed.

The Development of Visible-Light Organic Photocatalysts for Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization via Conjugation Extension

open access: yesMolecules
This work aimed to develop organic photocatalysts (PCs) that could mediate organocatalytic atom transfer radical polymerization (O-ATRP) under visible light.

Copolymers Formation by Photopolymerization of (Meth)acrylates Containing Dissolved Polyheteroarylenes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Polymer Science, 2009
Radical photopolymerization of (meth)acrylates in the presence of dissolved polyheteroarylenes has been investigated. The kinetics of radical polymerization of unsaturated monomers in the presence of polyheteroarylenes and model compounds has been ...

Lubrication with Oil-Compatible Polymer Brushes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A polymer-brush-based, surface-modification strategy for friction and wear reduction in hard contact under boundary-lubrication conditions is proposed, specifically for a non-aqueous environment. Surface-initiated atom-transfer radical polymerization was

Mechanisms of femtosecond laser-induced refractive index modification of poly(methyl methacrylate) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The mechanisms of refractive index change in poly(methyl methacrylate) by frequency doubled femtosecond laser pulses are investigated. It is demonstrated that positive refractive index modificaton can be caused by a combination of depolymerization and ...

Electrostatic charging of non-polar colloids by reverse micelles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
Colloids dispersed in a non-polar solvent become charged when reverse micelles are added. We study the charge of individual sterically-stabilized poly(methyl methacrylate) spheres dispersed in micellar solutions of the surfactants sodium bis(2-ethyl 1-hexyl) sulfosuccinate [AOT], zirconyl 2-ethyl hexanoate [Zr(Oct)$_{2}$], and a copolymer of poly(12 ...

Shape‐Stabilization of Phase Change Materials with Carbon‐Conscious Poly(hydroxy)Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Poly(hydroxy)urethane (PHU) foam, derivable from carbon dioxide (CO2) and bio‐based resources, is a promising material platform for shape‐stabilizing phase change materials (PCMs). We demonstrate the encapsulation of both paraffins and calcium chloride hexahydrate in PHU foam, achieving 48 stable thermal cycles by introducing 5 wt.% barium carbonate ...
