Adhesion of coagulase-negative staphylococci to methacrylate polymers and copolymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Adhesion of coagulasef-negative staphylococci (CNS) was studied onto a homologous series of methacrylate polymers and copolymers. The materials varied in wettability (contact angles) and were either positively or negatively charged (zetapotential ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Polarization holography in azobenzene polymeric films prepared using the new chemical method

open access: yesSemiconductor Physics, Quantum Electronics & Optoelectronics, 2020
The recording media for polarization holography based on azobenzene polymers are obtained by polymer-analogous transformations of polymethacrylic acid and its copolymers with alkyl methacrylates.

Chemoselective Sequential Polymerization: An Approach Toward Mixed Plastic Waste Recycling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological protein metabolism, this study demonstrates the closed‐loop recycling of mixed synthetic polymers via ring‐closing depolymerization followed by a chemoselective sequential polymerizations process. The approach recovers pure polymers from mixed feedstocks, even in multilayer formats, highlighting a promising strategy to overcome a

Dentin bond strength evaluation between a conventional and universal adhesive using etch-and-rinse strategy

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oral Sciences, 2021
Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and the characteristics of the adhesive interface of Scotchbond Universal - SU – etch-and-rise mode (3M ESPE) and Adper Scotchbond Multi-Purpose - MP (3M ESPE) to dentin over

High Load-Induced Birefringence of PMMA Investigated in VIS/NIR Spectral Range [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In the paper, we present the results of an investigation of polymethylmetacrylate’s birefringence induced due to applying high-load. The stress-induced birefringence of the polymethylmetacrylate samples was experimentally investigated by an apparatus ...

Unusual Swelling Behavior of Hydrogels Modified with Spiropyran as Appendage or Crosslinker

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Not so innocent after all—spiropyran crosslinkers in methylenebisacrylamide‐crosslinked poly(acrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid) hydrogels increase crosslinking density, but also, counterintuitively, increase swelling. Charge complexation, cooperative chemo‐mechanical effects, and aggregation may explain these observations.

Fluorescently Tagged Poly(methyl methacrylate)s

open access: yesMolecules
Plastic pollution is a global problem affecting the environment and, consequently, people’s well-being. Careful and timely end-of-life plastic recycling is certainly a way, albeit a partial one, to remedy the problem.

Tetrabutylammonium Bromide Media Aza-Michael Addition of 1,2,3,6-Tetrahydrophthalimide to Symmetrical Fumaric Esters and Acrylic Esters under Solvent-Free Conditions

open access: yesMolecules, 2010
The aza-Michael addition of 1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalimide with symmetrical fumaric esters has been performed efficiently in a solvent-free system at 100 °C and using 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) as a base in the presence of tetrabutylammonium ...

Efficient click-addition sequence for polymer–polymer couplings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Controlled radical polymerization methods and click chemistry form a versatile toolbox for creating complex polymer architectures. However, the incompatibility between the functional groups required for click reactions and the reaction conditions of ...
