Kinetics of the Free-Radical Polymerization of Isobornyl Methacrylate in the Presence of Polyisobutylenes of Different Molar Masses [PDF]

open access: yesMacromolecules 2005, 38, 5987-5994, 2013
The effect of a linear polymer dissolved in a reactive monomer on the kinetics of free-radical polymerization is studied. The selected system was a solution of polyisobutylene (PIB) in isobornyl methacrylate (IBoMA). Ternary phase diagrams of PIB, IBoMA and poly(isobornyl methacrylate) (PIBoMA) were built at 80C.

Influence of Temperature on Scratch and Wear Properties of Technical Thermoplastics: Implications for Material Selection

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The share of technical thermoplastics is expected to grow further in the e‐mobility segment. In this study, a detailed temperature‐based tribological characterization of technical thermoplastics is performed. The tribological properties are discussed in terms of the dynamic mechanical properties of polymers at different ambient temperatures. A proof of

Microleakage of two types of low-shrinkage composite resins in class II cavities on primary molars

open access: yesCaspian journal of dental research, 2019
Introduction: In direct aesthetic restoration, microleakage resulting from polymerization shrinkage of resin composites is still challenging. Different strategies such as maximizing the amount of inorganic filler with prepolymerized filler and different ...

Fluorescently Tagged Poly(methyl methacrylate)s

open access: yesMolecules
Plastic pollution is a global problem affecting the environment and, consequently, people’s well-being. Careful and timely end-of-life plastic recycling is certainly a way, albeit a partial one, to remedy the problem.

Iron Catalysts in Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Catalysts are essential for mediating a controlled polymerization in atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Copper-based catalysts are widely explored in ATRP and are highly efficient, leading to well-controlled polymerization of a variety of ...

Vibrational Study on Structure and Bioactivity of Protein Fibers Grafted with Phosphorylated Methacrylates

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
In the last decades, silk fibroin and wool keratin have been considered functional materials for biomedical applications. In this study, fabrics containing silk fibers from Bombyx mori and Tussah silk fibers from Antheraea pernyi, as well as wool keratin

Measurement of segmental mobility during constant strain rate deformation of a poly(methyl methacrylate) glass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We describe an apparatus for performing constant strain rate deformations of polymer glasses while simultaneously measuring the segmental mobility with an optical probe reorientation method. Poly(methyl methacrylate) glasses were deformed at Tg - 19 K, for local strain rates between 3.7x10-5/s and 1.2x10-4/s.

Scalable Fabrication of Height‐Variable Microstructures with a Revised Wetting Model

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Height‐variable microstructures are fabricated using a scalable CO2 laser machining approach, enabling precise control of wettability through structural gradients. Classical wetting models fail to capture height‐induced effects, necessitating a revised theoretical framework.

The Use of Chemical Reactivity Assays in Toxicity Prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The use of so-called “in chemico” methodology - abiotic assays that measure chemical reactivity - is gaining ground as relevant and reliable means of toxicity prediction.

Low-Damping Ferromagnetic Resonance in Electron-Beam Patterned, High-$Q$ Vanadium Tetracyanoethylene Magnon Cavities [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Materials 7, 121113 (2019), 2019
Integrating patterned, low-loss magnetic materials into microwave devices and circuits presents many challenges due to the specific conditions that are required to grow ferrite materials, driving the need for flip-chip and other indirect fabrication techniques.
