Dissolved Methane Sensor for Methane Leakage Monitoring in Methane Hydrate Production

OCEANS 2006, 2006
This paper describes the development of a dissolved methane sensor that will be used for the methane leakage monitoring in the methane hydrate production in Japan in the future. As for the requirements for the sensor, continuous, long-time use in a great water depth, real-time measurement, and outstanding response to the change of dissolved methane ...

Methane combustion in hydrate systems: Water-methane and water-methane-isopropanol

Journal of Engineering Thermophysics, 2013
Kinetics of dissociation of synthetic and natural methane gas hydrates, and also double isopropanol-methane hydrate is investigated. Thermal fields of the sample surfaces are measured by means of thermal imaging in combustion of released methane with clathrate dissociation.

Methane deaths?

The American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology, 1981
In the routine performance of their jobs, three men consecutively descended into an open drainage pit to recover a fallen grate lid. Each man, in turn, was immediately overcome and died within minutes of his descent. Initial analysis of the pit's air indicated a methane level of 15%.

Methane Monooxygenase: Functionalizing Methane at Iron and Copper

2014
Methane monooxygenases (MMOs) catalyze the conversion of methane to methanol as the first committed step in the assimilation of this hydrocarbon into biomass and energy by methanotrophs, thus playing a significant role in the biogeochemistry of this potent greenhouse gas.

Methane production and methane consumption: a review of processes underlying wetland methane fluxes

Biogeochemistry, 1998
Potential rates of both methane production and methane consumption vary over three orders of magnitude and their distribution is skew. These rates are weakly correlated with ecosystem type, incubation temperature, in situ aeration, latitude, depth and distance to oxic/anoxic interface.
