CO2 injection into submarine sediments: disturbing news for methane-rich hydrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The production of natural gas via injection of fossil-fuel derived CO2 into submarine gas hydrate reservoirs can be an example of tapping a hydrocarbon energy source in a CO2-neutral manner.

Methane hydrates and global climate [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, 1988
Methane hydrates are globally widespread in permafrost regions and beneath the sea in sediment of outer continental margins. The amount of methane sequestered in gas hydrates is probably enormous, but estimates of the amounts are speculative and range over three orders of magnitude (about 103 to 106 GT (gigatons = 1015 g)).

Discrete element analysis of macro- and micro-mechanical properties of methane hydrate-bearing clay under different salinities

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The mechanical behavior of methane hydrate bearing soil is closely related to the characteristics of hydrate phase equilibrium. Compared with sand, clay has smaller pore size and the pore size has a great influence on the characteristics of hydrate phase

Adaptive modeling of methane hydrates

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2010
AbstractWe consider a computational model for the evolution of methane hydrates in subsurface. Methane hydrates, an ice-like compound abundant in subsea sediments and unstable in standard conditions, are an environmental hazard and simultaneously an energy source. Our multiphysics model includes multiphase multicomponent mass conservation equations and

Phase change material integrated core–shell catalyst for in situ thermal control in methanol synthesis from syngas

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 72, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract A model‐guided core–shell catalyst design is presented for methanol synthesis, featuring a phase change material (PCM) core encapsulated by a Cu–Zn–Al 2O 3 (CZA) catalytic shell. The PCM enables in situ thermal management by absorbing reaction heat at its melting point, mitigates the kinetic decline at high temperatures and therefore avoids ...
