HYDRATES OF METHANE AND HYDROGEN

2019
Gas hydrates are icelike solids composed of guest molecules or atoms of gases trapped inside the cages formed within a crystalline host framework (clathrate) of hydrogenbonded water molecules. The report will mainly be devoted to various aspects of the formation and decomposition of methane hydrates, large deposits of which are found in permafrost and ...

Phase Diagram of Methane Hydrates and Discovery of MH-VI Hydrate

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2018
Methane hydrate is not only the predominant natural deposits of permafrost and continental margins of Earth but also the dominant methane-containing phase in the nebula and major moons of gas giants. Depending on the surrounding environment (mainly pressure), seven methane hydrate phases have been discovered by experiment or predicted by computer ...

Numerical Simulation of Methane Production from a Methane Hydrate Formation

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2008
This paper describes a one-dimensional model for hydrate dissociation in porous media by the depressurization method. A moving boundary, which separates the total simulation zone into two zones, is used. The governing equations consider the convective-conductive heat transfer and mass transfer in the gas and hydrate zones together with the energy ...

Recovering Methane from Solid Methane Hydrate with Carbon Dioxide

Angewandte Chemie, 2003
CO2 in, CH4 out! From NMR spectroscopic measurements of composition and kinetics, it can be shown that the recovery of methane from methane hydrate is possible through its reaction with CO2 (see diagram), even though the yield is less than that expected from kinetic and thermodynamic arguments.

Photocatalytic conversion of methane contained in methane hydrates

Topics in Catalysis, 2005
Photocatalytic conversion of methane dissolved in water at 1 MPa and 100 MPa, and methane contained in methane hydrates was performed. Several photocatalysts based on tungsten oxide and titania was investigated. Both full spectrum and visible light were used as the illumination source.

Sea Floor Methane Hydrates at Hydrate Ridge, Cascadia Margin

2013
The crest of Hydrate Ridge harbors a variety of gas hydrates in near-surface sediments. Hydrate formation and destruction continuously shape the ridge topography. Interstitial Cl-anomaly patterns in conjunction with video-guided sampling have established that the uppermost sediment column contains several distinct layers of gas hydrate which are ...

Dissociation of various gas hydrates (methane hydrate, double gas hydrates of methane-propane and methane-isopropanol) during combustion: Assessing the combustion efficiency

Energy, 2020
Abstract Most of the existing experimental and theoretical studies concern the combustion of methane hydrate. There are no works comparing the features and differences of combustion of different types of gas hydrates. In addition, there is a lack of data on the comparison of different combustion methods.

Simulations of the methane hydrate/methane gas interface near hydrate forming conditions conditions

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 1996
Abstract Molecular dynamics simulations have been used to probe the interface between type I methane hydrate and methane gas in the temperature range 250–300 K, and at pressures of 1 and 100 MPa. The interface was found to be stable up to 270 K, with the onset of melting occurring more readily at the lower pressure.

Contrasting the hydration thermodynamics of methane and methanol

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2019
The hydration thermodynamics of methane and methanol depend on the cavity creation work and energy of van der Waals and H-bonding attractions.

Kinetics of methane hydrate dissociation

Doklady Physical Chemistry, 2015
The methane hydrate dissociation at an external pressure of 1 bar has been experimentally studied. The methane dissociation rate depends on the heat transfer intensity in the course of dissociation. Quasi-isothermal and nonisothermal conditions of clathrate dissociation have been compared.
