Proposing mitigation strategies for reducing the impact of rice cultivation on climate change in Egypt

open access: yesWater Science, 2013
This research assesses different strategies for reducing methane emission from rice cultivation that might reduce climate change. The methane emission is calculated during the period from 1990 to 2010, based on the Egyptian National Greenhouse Gas ...

The role of future anthropogenic methane emissions in air quality and climate

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science, 2022
Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions is crucial for achieving the goals of the Paris climate agreement. One key gas is methane, whose representation in most climate models is limited by using prescribed surface concentrations.

Quantification of methane oxidation in the rice rhizosphere using 13C-labelled methane [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
In this paper isotope ratio mass spectrometry is used to determine the methane (CH4) oxidation fraction in the rhizosphere of intact rice plant-soil systems.

Significant climate benefits from near-term climate forcer mitigation in spite of aerosol reductions

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2021
Near-term climate forcers (NTCFs), including aerosols and chemically reactive gases such as tropospheric ozone and methane, offer a potential way to mitigate climate change and improve air quality—so called ‘win-win’ mitigation policies.

Climate Benefits from Methane Mitigation

open access: yes, 2023
Methane is a greenhouse gas with a lifespan of about a decade, and its presence in the atmosphere affects the Earth’s temperature and the climate system. Methane is included in short-lived climate forcers (SLCFs) or near-term climate forcers (NTCFs)

Assessment of the potential contribution of biogas to mitigation of climate change in south africa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Includes bibliographical references.South Africa has its fair share in the global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with recorded 2010 emissions per capita of 10tons/year.

The growing role of methane in anthropogenic climate change

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2016
Unlike CO _2 , atmospheric methane concentrations are rising faster than at any time in the past two decades and, since 2014, are now approaching the most greenhouse-gas-intensive scenarios.

Reduction of methane emission from landfills using bio-mitigation systems – from lab tests to full scale implementation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Landfills are significant sources of methane, which contributes to climate change. As an alternative to mitigation by gas utilization systems, bio-mitigation systems may be implemented.

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.
