Varying effects of stream restoration on riparian soil carbon persistence and methane emissions in the southern Rocky Mountains, United States

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Channel incision can disconnect streams from their floodplains, potentially depleting carbon (C) in riparian soils by stimulating microbial decomposition. Stream restoration may offer an opportunity to replenish soil C pools by saturating riparian soils with water and slowing microbial activity.

Carbon monoxide inhibition on acidogenic glucose fermentation and aceticlastic methanogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes
Syngas and CO-rich off-gases are key chemical platforms to produce biofuels and bioproducts. From the perspective of optimizing and up-scaling CO co-digestion with organic waste streams, this study aims at assessing and quantifying the inhibitory effects

Environmental drivers of gaseous carbon fluxes in drained and rewetted Minnesota peatlands, U. S. A.

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Rewetting shows promise for mitigating carbon loss from drained peatlands. However, knowledge gaps remain in rewetting impacts on gaseous carbon fluxes and factors affecting rewetting success, especially in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest, United States, despite abundant degraded peatlands presenting restoration opportunities ...

Effect of ammonium concentration on methane oxidation and CO2 removal in an anaerobic biotrickling filter treating synthetic landfill gas and leachate

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 8, Page 1632-1642, August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Landfill gas (LFG) and leachate are commonly treated separately through energy‐intensive processes. This study evaluated the integration of both streams in an anaerobic biotrickling filter (BTF) to achieve simultaneous methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) removal coupled with ammonium (NH4+) transformation, and how the microbial ...

The influence of longitudinal dispersion on the capacity and stability of UASB operation with substrate inhibition

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2022
A volumetric dispersion model (VDM) with inhibitory kinetics was proposed to describe the biogas production from the acetolastic methanogenesis of the acetate medium process in modeling aspects of the operating capacity and stability.

The effect of pretreatment on VFA production from tofu and tempeh wastewater through anaerobic digestion batch

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, Volume 20, Issue 4, Page 1743-1761, July/August 2026.
Abstract Tofu and tempeh, derived from soybeans, are widely consumed for their nutritional value and high protein content. However, the production of these foods generates nutrient‐rich wastewater that poses environmental challenges while offering opportunities for valorization.

Nitrous oxide inhibition of methanogenesis represents an underappreciated greenhouse gas emission feedback. [PDF]

open access: yes
Methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) are major greenhouse gases that are predominantly generated by microbial activities in anoxic environments. N2O inhibition of methanogenesis has been reported, but comprehensive efforts to obtain kinetic information ...

Primary productivity coupled to oxic methane production in coastal waters of southern China

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, Volume 11, Issue 4, July 2026.
Abstract Oxic methane (CH4) production (OMP) occurs in diverse oxygenated surface waters worldwide. However, phytoplankton‐driven OMP in natural marine environments remains poorly documented. During a research cruise in the highly productive southern East China Sea, we measured OMP by incubating phytoplankton‐rich surface waters and found that CH4 ...

Anaerobic Digestion of Olive Mill Wastewater in the Presence of Biochar

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Biological treatments focused on stabilizing and detoxifying olive mill wastewater facilitate agronomic reuse for irrigation and fertilization. Anaerobic digestion is particularly attractive in view of energy recovery, but is severely hampered by the ...
