Characteristics and metabolic patterns of soil methanogenic archaea communities in the high‐latitude natural forested wetlands of China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2021
Soil methanogenic microorganisms are one of the primary methane‐producing microbes in wetlands. However, we still poorly understand the community characteristic and metabolic patterns of these microorganisms according to vegetation type and seasonal ...

Comparison of Different Carbon Sources on Biomethane Production with Clostridium cellulovorans and Methanogens

open access: yesApplied Microbiology, 2023
Methane (CH4) has attracted attention as not only one of the hydrogen carriers in terms of energy density, but also synthetic natural gas. In nature, the decomposition of organic compounds is performed with bacterial ecosystems that can produce CH4 ...

Methanogens, Methane and Gastrointestinal Motility

open access: yesJournal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, 2014
Anaerobic fermentation of the undigested polysaccharide fraction of carbohydrates produces hydrogen in the intestine which is the substrate for methane production by intestinal methanogens. Hydrogen and methane are excreted in the flatus and in breath giving the opportunity to indirectly measure their production using breath testing.

Ecological and Technological Insights to Enhance Rice Production: A Machine Learning Approach for Sustainable Agriculture in Granma, Cuba

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Amid the quest for sustainable agriculture, this study explores key ecological and technological factors influencing crop production under climate change. We conduct a comprehensive assessment of temperature, biomass, farmer education, renewable energy devices, greenhouse gas emissions and their effects on rice yields in Granma, Cuba, from ...

Sources and dynamics of methanogens in Humans

open access: yes, 2022
Les méthanogènes sont présents dans le microbiote humain dès la naissance avec une diversification au fil des années. Cependant, le répertoire complet, les sources et la dynamique des méthanogènes restent méconnus chez l’Homme d’où mon projet de thèse ...

Oral Iron Supplementation—Gastrointestinal Side Effects and the Impact on the Gut Microbiota

open access: yesMicrobiology Research, 2021
Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) is a worldwide healthcare problem affecting approximately 25% of the global population. The most common IDA treatment is oral iron supplementation, which has been associated with gastrointestinal (GI) side effects such as ...

Nature‐Positive Materials Engineering: Carbon Electrodes from Satoyama Biomass

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
Nature‐positive materials engineering can link satoyama forest stewardship with the design of carbon electrodes for batteries, supercapacitors, and electrocatalysis. By turning underused firewood and charcoal resources into functional carbons, this approach reduces mining footprints while supporting biodiversity, landscape resilience, and regional ...

Comparison of Three Sympatric Desert Lizards: Digestive Tract Structure, Digestive Enzyme Activities, Gut Microbiota, and Metabolites

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We performed 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolite profiling for three sympatric lizard species—Teratoscincus roborowskii, Phrynocephalus axillaris, and Eremias roborowskii—and compared their goblet cell and enzyme activities in the digestive tract. Our study suggests that the dietary niche may promote divergence or convergence of microbiota across host ...

Carbon Metabolism of Methylotrophic Methanogens and Asgard Archaea in Marine Sediments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Carbon is the central element of life, as it is involved in building up of biological constituents and energy metabolisms in the cell. Archaea, - the most recently recognized domain of life - hold a crucial phylogenetic position in the evolution of life,

Supplementing beef cattle diets with brown seaweed affects coprophagous beetles' dung use

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Supplementing beef cattle diets with brown seaweed reduced the attractiveness of dung for a common dung beetle (Onthophagus nuchicornis). Dietary supplementation with brown seaweed appeared to reduce the proportion of major males in the F1 generation.
