The effects of methanol clustering on methanol–water nucleation

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2022
The formation of subcritical methanol clusters in the vapor phase is known to complicate the analysis of nucleation measurements. Here, we investigate how this process affects the onset of binary nucleation as dilute water–methanol mixtures in nitrogen carrier gas expand in a supersonic nozzle.

Sorption of methanol in the system methanol-polymethylmethacrylate

Polymer Science U.S.S.R., 1981
Abstract The sorption of methanol by sheets of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) was studied over the temperature range 30–64°. The process is two stage over this whole range. The first stage was characterized by a series of sequential swelling steps and continued right up the meeting of diffusion fronts.

Effects of methanol on a methanol-tolerant bacterial lipase

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2013
Methanol is often employed in biocatalysis with the purpose of increasing substrates solubility or as the acyl acceptor in transesterification reactions, but inhibitory effects are observed in several cases. We have studied the influence of methanol on the catalytic activity and on the conformation of the lipase from Burkholderia glumae, which is ...

Calculated infrared spectra of hydrogen‐bonded methanol–water, water–methanol, and methanol–methanol complexes

International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, 2005
AbstractAb initio calculations at the B3LYP/aug‐cc‐pVDZ, B3PW91/aug‐cc‐pVDZ, MP2/aug‐cc‐pVDZ, B3LYP/6‐311++G(2d,2p), B3PW91/6‐311++G(2d,2p), and MP2/6‐311++G(2d,2p) levels are performed for the IR spectra of isolated water and methanol molecules and hydrogen‐bonded water–methanol, methanol–water, and methanol–methanol complexes.

The toxicity of methanol

Life Sciences, 1991
Methanol toxicity in humans and monkeys is characterized by a latent period of many hours followed by a metabolic acidosis and ocular toxicity. This is not observed in most lower animals. The metabolic acidosis and blindness is apparently due to formic acid accumulation in humans and monkeys, a feature not seen in lower animals.

Combustion of methanol and methanol/dodecanol spray flames [PDF]

open access: possible26th Joint Propulsion Conference, 1990
The structure of methanol and methanol/dodecanol mixture spray flames has been examined. The mixture was studied in order to obtain evidence for the occurrence of microexplosio ns. Droplet size and velocity measurements were carried out under burning conditions using phase/Doppler interferometry.

Methanol to Aromatics

2017
Methanol is a compound containing one carbon, three hydrogens, and one hydroxyl-group, or an oxygen-hydrogen group. Due to the single carbon, also known as the methyl-group, methanol can be used to build up other, larger carbon chains ranging from a two carbon chain to an eight carbon chain or larger.

Demonstration of methanol dehydrogenase in methanol assimilating yeasts

Experientia, 1975
