Thermally Assisted Photocatalytic Dehydrogenation of Methanol in Continuous Steady‐State Operation
Thermally assisted photocatalytic methanol dehydrogenation on Pt/TiO2 enables formaldehyde and hydrogen production far beyond thermodynamic limits. Continuous operation delivers up to 95% selectivity over 70 h, and oxygen microdosing strongly boosts conversion by regenerating surface oxygen sites.

New adsorbents of methanol for the intensification of methanol synthesis
Reaction Kinetics, Mechanisms and Catalysis, 2011Novel composite adsorbents Ca(NO3)2)/SiO2, LiBr/SiO2 and CaCl2/SiO2 have been intently designed for shifting the equilibrium of methanol synthesis by methanol removal from the reaction mixture. Testing of these composites in a lab-scale tubular flow reactor at the initial mixture composition CO/CO2/N2/H2 = 30.0/2.0/3.2/64.8, total pressure P = 2 MPa ...

Catalysis Letters, 1992
Methanol, like ammonia, is one of the key industrial chemicals produced by heterogeneous catalysis. As with the original ammonia catalyst (Fe/K/Al2O3), so with methanol, the original methanol synthesis catalyst, ZnO, was discovered by Alwin Mittasch. This was translated into an industrial process in which methanol was produced from CO/H2 at 400 °C and ...

Wettability Engineering of Solar Methanol Synthesis
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2023Engineering the wettability of surfaces with hydrophobic organics has myriad applications in heterogeneous catalysis and the large-scale chemical industry; however, the mechanisms behind may surpass the proverbial hydrophobic kinetic benefits. Herein, the well-studied In2O3 methanol synthesis photocatalyst has been used as an archetype platform for a ...

Kinetics of the three phase methanol synthesis
Chemical Engineering Science, 1988The kinetics of the three-phase methanol synthesis, starting from carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen over a commercial Cu-Zn-Al catalyst suspended in squalane as the slurry liquid, were studied in a well-mixed, agitated slurry reactor at p = 15 – 40 bar and T = 210 – 260 °C.

Kinetics of low-pressure methanol synthesis
Chemical Engineering Science, 1988The kinetics of low-pressure methanol synthesis, starting from CO, CO2 and hydrogen over a commercial CuZnAl catalyst, were studied in a spinning basket reactor at p = 15–50 bar and T = 210–245°C. The results show that methanol can be formed from both CO and CO2. Besides these two reactions the water-gas-shift reaction takes place.

KINETICS OF METHANOL SYNTHESIS IN THE SLURRY PHASE
Chemical Engineering Science, 1988Rates of CH3OH formation on a Cu/ZnO catalyst suspended in an inert hydrocarbon were studied in a gradientless autoclave. In addition, the solubilities of H2, CO, CO2 and CH3OH were measured and expressed by Henry's constants. From the rate data (89 experimental runs) a power law type rate expression has been developed which is sufficient for design ...

Ammonia and Methanol Synthesis
2011In the early days, the composition of catalysts discovered and developed by Mittasch that were used by BASF in the plants at Oppau and Leuna was kept secret. Apart from the fact that iron was used and that the process operated at high pressure, little other technical information was available until after the war had ended.
