Structure and activity of particulate methane monooxygenase arrays in methanotrophs
Methane-oxidizing bacteria play a central role in greenhouse gas mitigation and have potential applications in biomanufacturing. Their primary metabolic enzyme, particulate methane monooxygenase (pMMO), is housed in copper-induced intracytoplasmic ...

Methanotrophs, which help regulate atmospheric levels of methane, are active in diverse natural and man-made environments. This range of habitats and the feast-famine cycles seen by many environmental methanotrophs suggest that methanotrophs dynamically ...

Ultrastructure of methanotrophic yeasts [PDF]
The cellular structure of two yeast strains capable of growth on methane was investigated by electron microscopy. Microbodies were observed in cells of Sporobolomyces roseus strain Y and Rhodotorula glutinis strain CY when grown on methane but rarely when grown on glucose.

Methane-oxidizing bacteria (methanotrophs) play an ecological role in methane and nitrogen fluxes because they are capable of nitrogen fixation and methane oxidation, as indicated by genomic and cultivation-dependent studies.

The pH-based ecological coherence of active canonical methanotrophs in paddy soils [PDF]
Soil pH is considered one of the main determinants of the assembly of globally distributed microorganisms that catalyze the biogeochemical cycles of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N).

The northern Gulf of Mexico (nGOM) hypoxic zone is a shallow water environment where methane, a potent greenhouse gas, fluxes from sediments to bottom water and remains trapped due to summertime stratification.

Methanotrophs Contribute to Nitrogen Fixation in Emergent Macrophytes
Root-associated aerobic methanotroph plays an important role in reducing methane emissions from wetlands. In this study, we examined the activity of methane-dependent nitrogen fixation and active nitrogen-fixing bacterial communities on the roots of ...

Macroecology of methane-oxidizing bacteria: the β-diversity of pmoA genotypes in tropical and subtropical rice paddies [PDF]
Studies addressing microbial biogeography have increased during the past decade, but research on microbial distribution patterns is still in its infancies, and many aspects are only poorly understood. Here, we compared the methanotroph community in paddy

Bacteriophages of methanotrophic bacteria [PDF]
Bacteriophages of methanotrophic bacteria have been found in 16 out of 88 studied samples (underground waters, pond water, soil, gas and oil installation waters, fermentor cultural fluids, bacterial paste, and rumen of cattle) taken in different geographic zones of the Soviet Union.

Planktonic and sediment-associated aerobic methanotrophs in two seep systems along the North American margin [PDF]
Methane vents are of significant geochemical and ecological importance. Notable progress has been made towards understanding anaerobic methane oxidation in marine sediments, however, the diversity and distribution of aerobic methanotrophs in the water ...
