Is methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus replacing methicillin-susceptible S. aureus? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2011
Despite extensive research on the emergence of and treatments for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), prior studies have not rigorously evaluated the impact of methicillin resistance on the overall incidence of S. aureus infections. Yet, there are direct clinical and research implications of determining whether methicillin-susceptible S.

1126 METHICILLIN RESISTANT S. AUREUS INFECTIONS IN PEDIATRICS [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Research, 1985
Methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) is endemic on adult services in our hospital; however, prior to 1983 MRSA was rarely recovered from pediatric patients. In the 1 year period from October 1983 through September 1984, 13 MRSA isolates were recovered from 12 pediatric inpatients. There were 12 episodes of infection.

Rapid PCR Detection of Staphylococcus aureus Clonal Complex 398 by Targeting the Restriction-Modification System Carrying sau1-hsdS1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A PCR targeting sau1-hsdS1 was developed for rapid detection of Staphylococcus aureus clonal complex 398 (CC398). High sensitivity (100%) and specificity (100%) were shown by evaluating the test on a large strain collection (n = 1,307). We recommend this
