Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

An Improved Sampling and Baiting Method for Phytophthora tropicalis and P. heveae Detection in Macadamia integrifolia

open access: yesPlants
Macadamia nuts are, economically, the second most important crop in the state of Hawai’i. A recent decline in yield and acreage has been attributed to insect damage and diseases such as Macadamia Quick Decline (MQD) caused by Phytophthora tropicalis and ...

Ontology Development Methods

open access: yesDESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology, 2011
An ontology defines a common vocabulary for researchers who need to share information in a specific domain. It includes interoperability of basic concepts in the domain and relations among them. The present paper takes a brief overview of different tools and methods for developing ontologies, their relationship with artificial intelligence, followed by

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

“Achter de voordeur”: huisbezoeken in de wijkaanpak

open access: yesJournal of Social Intervention, 2009
Neighbourhoods are focus of considerable attention, identified as appropriate sites for innovation in both governance and service design. Persistent social problems exist in some neighbourhoods of Enschede (a town of 160.000 inhabitants in the East of ...

A scheduling algorithm for Spacelab telescope observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
An algorithm is developed for sequencing and scheduling of observations of stellar targets by equipment on Spacelab. The method is a general one. The scheduling problem is defined and examined.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

New Approach to Experimental Soil Health Definition Using Thermogravimetric Fingerprinting

open access: yesAgronomy
Degradation and sealing are still frequent in soil management today despite intensive research. An unsatisfactory assessment of soil key components and soil health still limits sustainable land use.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
