A wavelet-based edge detection method by scale multiplication

Object recognition supported by user interaction for service robots, 2003
A wavelet-based multiscale edge detection scheme is presented in this paper. By multiplying the wavelet coefficients at two adjacent scales to magnify significant structures and suppress noise, we determined edges as the local maxima directly in the scale product after an efficient thresholding, instead of first forming the edge maps at several scales ...

Method of Multiple Fault Isolation in Large Scale Systems

IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2012
In this paper, problems of the online diagnostics of multiple faults in large scale systems are presented. Possibilities of recognition of multiple faults based on the knowledge of signatures of the single faults are discussed. The distinction between simultaneous faults and the series of faults is introduced and defined.

Large-scale fuzzy multiple-medoid clustering method

Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2016
As one of feasible clustering techniques for large-scale data, incremental fuzzy clustering, which copes with data in chunks, has triggered more attentions in recent years. The existing methods, such as online fuzzy C -medoids (OFCMd) and history-based online fuzzy C

Multiple Time Scale Methods and Gyrotrons

1987
Abstract : Objectives were to complete a study of one-dimensional electrostatic plasmas using the discrete Hamiltonian method, and to construct a model of ridged high harmonic gyrtron oscillators using standard gyrotron modeling techniques. Ridged gyrotrons appear ideal for the future application of the multiple time scale, discrete Hamiltonian method.

Computer-based rating method for evaluating multiple visual stimuli on multiple scales

Computers in Human Behavior, 2008
In this research, two joint evaluation rating methods (focus-on-attribute and drag-and-drop) and a separate evaluation rating method (focus-on-stimulus) are proposed for rating multiple visual stimuli with respect to multiple scales. All three interactive methods incorporate a real-time adjusting mechanism, allowing respondents to interactively adjust ...

Method of multiple scales and identification of nonlinear structuraldynamic systems

24th Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1983
A procedure is developed to identify the parameters of a nonlinear structural dynamic system with a single degree of freedom. A cubic nonlinearity is assumed for purposes of illustration. In comparison to the direct identification procedures, which depend on either the availability of data on all four variables, namely, velocity, acceleration ...

Nonlinear Optimal Control Problems and the Method of Multiple Scales

IMA Journal of Mathematical Control and Information, 1989
Summary: The method of multiple scales is used to obtain an approximate solution to the problem of the optimal control of a second-order differential equation containing a small nonlinearity. Applications are made to the Duffing and van der Pol equations.

The Multiple Scales Method, Homoclinic Bifurcation and Melnikov's Method for Autonomous Systems

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 1998
Melnikov's method is a well-established technique for detecting homoclinic bifurcation of perturbed autonomous or forced systems. This method uses a regular perturbation expansion in terms of a small parameter in the system. Whilst the approach correctly estimates the parameter values for the bifurcation and transverse intersections of separatrices ...
